The porters handbook is your friend :-)

http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/porters-handbook/index.html

You should also subscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] That would be
the correct list for port questions.

ports mbone/udpcast (PR# 114061) outdated

2007-07-01 Thread Tim Judd
I noticed not too long ago that mbone/udpcast was outdated (as in more
than 3 years old). Not knowing what or how to proceed with such an
outdated port, I decided to file a bug report. It seemed the sensible
thing to do.

As you can see below, Edwin (edwin .at. FreeBSD.org) made the change to
close the ticket without much details.

Well, I know what patches are, but I don't think patches themselves are
able to fix the outdated port.. so I'm lost. What do I do?

I thought since the port was extremely outdated, that someone with a
commit bit would have to setup the updated port in the CVS tree, I
can't commit them myself. I don't even know exactly what patches are
needed or where to submit them.

So, how do I proceed? I need some tips and a hand-in-hand tutorial on
what to update and where to send the update.

Thanks for the tips. BTW: I'm subscribed to the questions list on a
digest, I ask a CC please on all the replies.

MBONE Tunnel

2004-11-04 Thread Loren M. Lang
I've recently become intrested in connecting to MBONE. I already have
all the various video conferencing tools setup including mrouted on my
router. I was able to do a local LAN conference, but now I'd like to
try and connect to the real network. It appears that neither ISP that I
use has MBONE available and I'll need to find a network to create a
tunnel with. Where could I find a list of sites that I could connect
to? Also, what exactly do I need to have open on my firewall for MBONE?
A side question is how does a firewall affect sniffing programs like
tcpdump?

I've spent some time searching for information on mbone tunnels and
schedule information and it looks like most pages aren't updated any
newer than 1999, is mbone already dead?

MBone

2004-08-01 Thread Loren M. Lang
I'm curious if there is anyone here who know anything about mbone. I've
recently become intrested in it, and I've downloaded and setup all the
software for it which I used to do some video conferencing on my LAN.
I've been looking for a way to join the main mbone network but there
seems to be little information on it, or the info there is is dated
before 2000. Am I just too late and mbone already died off?

2003-08-14 Thread AO Okeke
Does anyone know how I can connect directly to the Mbone to do multicasting
with my Helix server? I read that I could use mrouted to geta direct connect
to the Mbone, but what ip address do I connect to? or should I try the 6bone
instead? My friends and I want to have videoconferences and use streaming
media via Helix. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

questions on mbone and FreeBSD

2003-07-08 Thread Abhinandan_Som
Hi,
I have some questions about mbone on FreeBSD

My Configuration
1. A Dell Optiplex GX150 with FreeBSD 4.8 running on it
2. Configured the kernel to do multicast routing. Also created a /etc/mrouted.conf
file with tunnels setup to our other offices on the west coast
3. I have mrouted_enable = "YES" in my /etc/rc.conf file
4. I have pre-compiled binaries of SDR v3.0 and VIC v2.8ucl-1.1.5 in /home/mbone/sdr
and /home/mbone/vic respectively where mbone is an user that I created in the wheel
group and I want to use this user to run mbone everytime.

My Problem
1. When I start up my FreeBSD box, I see that mrouted is running
2. I then try to create a meeting advertisement through SDR and for some reason it
doesn't get announced to the other sites that I have created tunnels to route
multicast traffic
3. I tried all 3 different TTLs (local (15), region (63) and world (127)) to scope my
announcement but with no success.
4. I am able to see and join meetings that are announced by the other sites..but just
the meetings that are announced by me are not being seen by any other sites. In
addition, they also disappear from my SDR list after about 30-40 mins

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

-Abhi
