Hello,
I plan to buy a new notebook and will use FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE, I have
2 choices, Turion64 x2 with 2.0 GHz and Centrino Duo 2 with 2.0 GHz,
but with 2 GB DDR2 ram, with the same speed of the hd 5400 RPM.
So which of them will buildworld, and ports from source faster? both
of them will use

I was reading this:

My question is how is a FreeBSD box with NDISulator, or a linux box with
ndiswrapper, affected by these exploits? I'm guessing that since linux

I'm happily using FreeBSD 6 on a Centrino laptop, but wondering if
anyone can explain ("for dummies") how to use the new cpufreq +
SpeedStep to throttle-down my CPU usage and extend battery life - the
way that sysutils/est and sysutils/estctrl used to do in FreeBSD 5?
(I was using

PERFECT! Thanks.

Can FreeBSD tell a Centrino (Pentium-M) CPU to decrease its CPU power?
I have a laptop (Gateway 450ROG) whose CPU seems to run hotter in
FreeBSD doing *nothing* than it does in Windows doing almost anything.
So much so that the loud "emergency" fan kicks on often to cool the
CPU, eve

I recently purchased a new laptop, an IBM X31 ThinkPad, which uses the Centrino
processor. I had high expectations for this machine.
Alas, my expectations have been shattered. All attempts at installing FreeBSD 5.2.1
quickly end with a crash. Interestingly, I have an old FBSD 4.8 CD - that

Yep! I'm typing on my Gateway 450x Centrino laptop in FreeBSD 4.8 now.
I *LOVE* it.Looks and works wonderful.
Note that the Centrino built-in wireless ethernet is not recognized, though.
But ever
I just wondered whether the Centrino CPU was usable in combination with
FreeBSD. I'm just about buying myself an Acer Travelmate 803 laptop, and
was wondering whether FreeBSD (5.1 if possible, 4.8 also usable) is
usable on that box.
Thanks for any help.
