i finally finished (re-did!) the AR9170 support. It's a ported driver
from OpenBSD.
it's in https://github.com/erikarn/otus/ .
The build installs both the newer carl9170 firmware for when I migrate
to using that, and the firmware the openbsd driver supports
(otus-init, otus-main.) It's .. ve
I tried to look for beacon frames using tcpdump on another urtwn adapter
but unfortunately it doesn't appear to be working. I see a "need
promiscuous mode update callback" printed out on the console every time
I try. I assume that's indicative of a problem. Is there something else

Thanks for the hint. I'm away from the Toshiba computers for a few days, out of
