After some study, i agree that the current choice is deliberate. People can
heal just about anywhere, while machines need to go to a repair facility.
Note that Big Land units do not enjoy hp_regen in a fortress - they have to
go to some sort

This looks like bug #17608 (since fixed). Perhaps knock-on effects from that
bug can cause the symptoms you describe?

just what is meant by 'supported'?
