[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #1466] Help: new sections Cities, Economy, Overview, other loose ends

2010-02-12 Thread Matthias Pfafferodt

Follow-up Comment #1, patch #1466 (project freeciv):

Topics not covered: new 2.2 features plague and migration

Will you do a section about these two topics for 2.2.x? If you have questions
wrt the formula behind it I can help.

Details:

Hi There!

I've seen that FreeCiv has Saxonia, Bavaria, Westphalia and other german
states (and former independent ones) included, so I also want to have Swabia
included.

I provide here the Files to include it in the next release. Please do this,
so noone have to be angry that there are Bavarians and Saxonians but no
Swabians. :)

If I forgot something, please inform me and I will correct it.

As in other rulesets, I filled the leaders list up with no real political or
militarical leaders but with popular people born in the region of Swabia.

I added also a few cities, but didnt have the time than typing those I had in
mind. Feel free to add more :)

Greetings
Markus

Not for 2.2.0 -- I ran out of time, I'm afraid. I may slip it in as a running
change for 2.2.x if I can get away with it ;)

Migration at least is already well documented in the server options which
turn it on. Plague/illness could use some.

Yes, please do sneak improvements to incomplete helptext into 2.2.x. :)

IMHO it can be considered a bugfix and should be fine as long as
translators are aware of the string changes.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #15333] Natural city names should ignore hints for unknown terrain types

2010-02-12 Thread Daniel Markstedt

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #15333 (project freeciv):

These error messages are of great use for me personally, since I often edit
nationsets. They've helped me catch numerous typos (mine and others.)

As a matter of fact, I'd love it if f.e. misspelled civilwar_nations and
conflicts_with were caught as well.

Could we have some kind of 'verbose' mode for the server that is turned off
by default but could be enabled on runtime?

Details:

The help update in patch #1401 didn't include the 2.2 new features, illness
and migration (neither of which are enabled by default).

Migration is reasonably well documented in the server options, but the help
should at least mention its existence.

Illness isn't a server option, it can only be activated in the ruleset. There
are words at http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Math#City_health. There are some
words at http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Math#City_health.

Both these probably belong in the section on Cities, although there are
cross-references needed elsewhere too (e.g. from Pollution and Trade for
illness).

Details:

Without wishing to brag, I have a 1680x1050 monitor[*]. In the S2_2 SDL
client, I can select that resolution and it seems to work fine. However, when
I quit and restart, I get the following messages and a lower resolution:

1: sectionfile /home/jtn/.freeciv-client-rc-2.2:
'client.gui_sdl_screen_width' should be in the interval [320, 1280] but is
1680; using the maximal value.
1: sectionfile /home/jtn/.freeciv-client-rc-2.2:
'client.gui_sdl_screen_height' should be in the interval [240, 960] but is
1050; using the maximal value.

Looks like the range in client/options.c should just be increased, but what
to? And is it possible that the client will get upset in some way by such a
big canvas?

[*] And to think I used to try to play Freeciv in 640x480.

Follow-up Comment #2, bug #15333 (project freeciv):

Another approach would be to bless a certain set of fixed terrain types as
usable in city descriptions, but that wouldn't be ideal for people making
modpacks (Barad-dûr (mountains, lava, skulls)). I like your idea better --

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #15347] Bad drawing and floating point exception with trade route line drawing in SDL client

Details:

In both S2_1 and S2_2, I'm finding that if I have trade route line drawing
enabled, the lines are drawn wrong and the client dies soon after starting,
with a floating point exception (or sometimes it dies as soon as a save file
is loaded).

Turning off trade route line drawing (e.g. by editing the ~/.civclientrc or
equivalent), the client seems stable.

(I usually use the Gtk client, and noticed this while testing the SDL client.
As far as I can tell the SDL client doesn't actually have an option to toggle
trade route line drawing, which might be why no-one's noticed this; hence
priority Normal.

to read some code I wrote years ago. So take your time ...
