The main reason I want Freedos is to flash my hard drive with the latest firmware.  I assume that the hard drive cannot be found for this purpose without legacy ATA support.  I suppose unnecessary drivers (or worse necessary ones?) can brick a hard drive too?  I wonder if it would be better if
