My old computer has a Phoenix bios. I’m pretty sure it has an outdated
version of it, too. How do I configure PCI settings from here? I only saw
something about I/O configuration.

Nope. At least, I don’t think.

IIRC, ESS provided some kind of utility which probed the system to detect the
configuration of the card and report its findings. Was any such thing included
in the driver package you downloaded?

How do I do this? Is there any way to do it without opening up my computer?
How do I get the BLASTER variable to match my hardware? I heard the SB
interrupt (which I assume means Sound Blaster interrupt) needs to be 5. How
can I check this?
Here’s the BLASTER variable Phil recommended on his site

You likely need to set the correct port, IRQ and other parameters to
match your hardware (`BLASTER` env var). There may be jumpers on your
card. Also read your hardware to help your discover them.

I set up the files, and it seems like the files loaded correctly at
startup. However, the driver doesn’t seem to detect my ESS SOLO-1 and it
says “no Audiodrive found.” Any way to fix this?

Hi Jim and AM,
1. FreeDOS cannot read NTFS.
However, there are non-open-source tools for DOS in general which
let you access files on older NTFS filesystems, for example Avira
NTFS4DOS from 2007, may access Windows 2003 or older filesystems.
FreeDOS can read variations of the FAT
Hi!
Problem is, fdconfig.sys and autoexec.bat seem really complicated...
For questions about the boot config menu system, check the HTMLHELP:
http://help.fdos.org/en/index.htm
http://help.fdos.org/en/hhstndrd/cnfigsys/menu.htm
You can also read this using the same name tool at the DOS
Just thought I’d make a new thread since the old on was getting long and
off-topic anyway.
I’m trying to install an ESS SOLO-1 driver I found here:

I copied the files onto my old computer and put them in the correct places,

Hi. My answer is in 2 parts:
1. FreeDOS cannot read NTFS. FreeDOS can read variations of the FAT
filesystem, including FAT32. But cannot read NTFS or extfs.
2. An operating system running inside a PC emulator like VirtualBox cannot
access the direct hardware of the machine. It can only access
I saw that their was an IF statement for when the config was set to 2, but
I don’t see a config option for 1. I use 1 at startup, and the mouse driver
works, yet it only seems to have a command within this IF statement.
I’m very confused here. I thought option 1 at startup had the most
features.
Yes, that is the correct list, but it didn't come through. When you send
something to the mailing list, you should get it in your own inbox when
it is forwarded from the list. If you did get that, then maybe something
happened on the mail server at just the wrong time.
Happy Hacking,
David
By the way, I emailed my question to freedos-user@lists.sourceforge.net
about two days ago. Isn't that the address where I can send questions to?
Many thanks.

have installed VirtualBox, and in this VirtualBox I have installed Freedos.
The virtual Freedos is running
I don't see any question from you in my several years of email history,
so perhaps your question never made it to the list.
Furthermore, this is not a paid support line. Nobody here owes you an

What’s your question?

Hi listers:
I thought I remembered another program that complains when there isn't a
disk in the A drive, and I found it.
But, this program may have more problems.
When I try to use edlin16, it complains if there is no disk in the A drive,
but, even if there is, it gives an
