___Freedos-user mailing listFreedos-user@lists.sourceforge.nethttps://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-userI was informed that the ELTORITO driver was only good for booting from CD. This is why the driver is not automatically installed to the hard disk. However, some users have reported that it has worked for them as a general CD driver when booting from the hard drive.  You can just boot the LiveCD again and copy the driver over from the CD onto the hard drive. It is located in the \FREEDOS\BIN directory. It should be copied to the same location on the hard drive. Then reboot from the hard drive. The CD initialization process will automatically try that driver (when present) if the others don’t work.Jerome___

[Freedos-user] Missing CDROM drive

2024-04-07 Thread dnashmcp--- via Freedos-user
I have a Thinkpad X301 (I think a perfect fit for FreeDOS). I was able to
install to C: from the FD-13LIVE CD and it loads a driver for the CDROM as
ELTORITO, but when I boot after installation it fails on the first attempt
to load a cdrom driver. The install of ELTORITO point to www.nu2.nu/eltorito
but there is nothing there. I am so rusty on DOS and I need some help.

Glad it worked now.

For the record:
Older VirtualBox versions (<6.0) should still run on Windows XP, but I
didn't try for myself.
https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=66264
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Download_Old_Builds_5_2

By the way: Oldest version I have here is
`VirtualBox_1.5.6-1_Win_x86.msi` from 2008. It's only 18 Mbyte in size,
while v5.2.44 is 105 Mbyte.

Cheers,
Robert

Thanks to jerome I believe the issue was tryin to install over the old copy
since i fprmated the drive before the install this time and it worked. I
probably should have tried that before sendin out the long message. My
gremlin there.

I cannot use vbox since my pc cannot run it, unless there is an xp
version. I prefer connectix virtual pc in xp and have the option to share
files between xp and the virtual machine.

Thanls to everyone for their replies and assistance. Great community.

worked for me (in QEMU).
I have chosen 'Install to hard disk' from the main menu.

Do you install in english?

Have you verified the file with
https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/distributions/test/verify.txt
 ?
You could use https://www.winmd5.com/ ...

Maybe try with VirtualBox:

Re: [Freedos-user] FreeDOS install

2024-04-07 Thread Norby Droid via Freedos-user
The install I have wanted to try (in connectix vpc) is the test FreeDOS
FDT2404-Live CD.zip from ibiblio. The test fails on both options with or
without sources added. TestDisk is where it will always stop.
‘Util\testdisk’ package. A reboot may help.
