HI thanks for this great list!
I was actually tinkering with 512 MB USB Sticks because I thought that there
might be a difference when it comes to use TWO USB-Sticks at the same time.
(like C: and D: )
I don’t know why this strategy SOMETIMES works - and sometimes it doesn’t.
Maybe it has

Oberon is so small because it lacks all the features an operating system must
have. These omissions are why the author never compares Oberon to popular
operating systems--it is a lost cause.

Hi Michael,
with great interest I was reading your thoughts about DOS.
Let me add from my personal experience:
The tech gap between DOS (FREEDOS) and WINDOWS/MAC honestly made me going back

I tried to make up my mind in the following way: What do I get
I have a couple of small pc s (hp, lenovo, EPT ed al.) around and start from

All USB devices work: Mouse, trackpad (also the Apple magic trackpad!), bamboo

fine …

Hi Eric,
I only now saw your earlier email with your detailed ideas how to approach the
question.
I would only need letters a-z to be shifted.

Yes, if I release the key under e.g. 500 Milliseconds, it would be the lower
case letter, if I hold it 500 ms and more, it would return a Upper case
(shifted) letter.
So it would need a »timer« to count from pressed key to released. if >500 ms,
it should send an ASCI
example

Thanks Eric for the info on Mielke, Sticky Keys ed al.
I would like to know how such a »driver«, as you call it could be realized?
I am not a programmer …

Hi,
is it possible in DOS (using BIOS?) to implement a tsr or so which allows the
following:
holding a key longer to return a SHIFT-key on screen?
Example:
press key »a« and HOLD the key for e.g. 500 milliseconds,
=> print shift-a = »A« on screen.
Anyone around who has an idea or

do you have some more info on your build?
I am interested in something like that, which would integrate a small trackpad

Hi Andrew,
these are all nice anecdotes!
I would want to focus more on the topic of the tool itself, i.e. the computer
as a writing aid, or writing machine. Historically the computer has nothing got
to do with writing texts, and in some way I do see this still today. Hardware
and software

I would want to find out if there is any common ground regarding USB Stick
formatting and having access to a second USB Stick when booting FreeDOS from a
first USB Stick.

There is even software that shuts down if you stop writing for more than a
couple fo seconds. ouch!
And here is a funny writing software, unfortunately only for Windows …
It only lets you write like on a Typwriter. But you can save it either as html
single pages or as a txt - file.
Yeah, sure, Martin writes on Word perfect. Still does.
