Commo is shareware but appears to be no longer developed.
 Has anyone
contacted the author to see if he might release the source
 code under
a free license such as the GNU GPL?

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/COMMO-list/

from the commo yahoogroups, the author of commo passed away in 2003 but his
relatives declared commo as freeware, even offering fred brucker's pc to anyone
interested. at some point, warez keygens was even encouraged to get it
registered. sadly, the source code was missing.

the nag screen was removed in v7.6, the last version was v7.7. there is no
added feature in the registered version.

BananaCom seems nice, and the license certainly makes it
 free for all.

can't they be added as-is, as legacy products? they are both practically free
and distribution is encouraged (commo as shareware). i see no need for source
codes since they work great by themselves. maybe just an addendum textfile is
needed to explain their status.

Re: [Freedos-user] FreeDOS-compatible modem dialer

2008-10-31 Thread Travis Siegel
The author of commo is no longer with us. He died a couple years ago,
so unfortunately, there's no way to ask him for distribution changes.
On the other hand, the source code for commo had been lost in a disk
crash sometime before his death, so there would have been no way for
him to release it as gpl anyhow.
It's a shame too, commo was an excellent program, and one I used for
many years.
There is a yahoo group that still occassionally gets posts from folks
making new macros and such, but for the most part, it's a dead list.
The messages from Fred's nephew about his uncle's computer and trying
to figure out what to do with his shareware are posted there as well,
(I don't have the direct url though), although I do have the messages
saved in my inbox if you are interested and can't find them online.

I was one of the distribution sites for commo when it was being
actively developed, and version 7.7 was the last official release of
this excellent program.
There are no restrictions on the shareware version though, so there's
nothing preventing users from using it as their regular com package.
Hope this helps.

I can't see any way to automate this. Try yourself :-)

The binary is at:
http://enteos2.area.trieste.it/russo/IntroInfo2001-2002/Microlinux/tty.exe

I can't find the source at:
http://enteos2.area.trieste.it/russo/IntroInfo2001-2002/Microlinux/sources/
Includes C code for very simple terminal programs, but appear to be
for the linux side, may
be some C guru here can make a DOS port. Don't includes the pascal
code for tty.exe

Official Mulinux page is at: http://mulinux.sunsite.dk/
May be the author can give you the source.

At Euphoria Language web page, I found this:

Serial I/O 3K Peter Blue Jun 8/97
a simple terminal program that lets you dial your modem and
communicate with another machine. Many people have asked for something
like this. Be sure to edit the correct COM port number of your modem
into his program before running it.
http://www.rapideuphoria.com/xserial.zip

Requires Euphoria Language to run, or you can use the Euphoria-To-C
translator and compile.

Best regards

BananaCom seems nice, and the license certainly makes it free for all.
But no source code - same question, anyone contacted the author to see
if source code can be made available. Would be good to see someone
continue development of this.
