To display other character sets in your DOS console please check the
DISPLAY and MODE commands, that will help you on that. There are many
examples in the bootdisks to show how to use it.
I don't know which character set, just tell us which are the settings
of these programs in MS-DOS that you use,
Candidate for kernel bug of the month perhaps? some underlying malloc()
call that way prog handles memory block integrity of the structures and
become damaged. Step through config.sys/autoexec.bat to see the bad wolf
and remove it..

I've never understood why mailing lists are so popular; surely NNTP is a
far better and more efficient way to discuss things, plus it has the
advantage of being able to manage archives and reduce bandwidth? Why
would anyone want to send out and receive 100s of emails when you could
