Hi listers:
I am a blind user playing around with FreeDOS using a virtual machine under
VMWare Player.
A while back, one of us set up a preconfigured DOSBox setup called “Talking
DOSBox”. I was thinking of putting together a similar virtual machine based on
a FreeDOS installation for others
Hi listers:
I’m trying to install FreeDOS with QEMU, and I get as far as formatting the hd,
then, the installation says it can’t find the package files.
I used the example in the Using FreeDOS Ebook, but, I did have to create the
“freedos.img” file, which was not covered.
I’m planning to do
Hi listers:
Using FreeDOS 1.3 RC1, whenever I use the find command, after it has finished
its work, I get an error which says it can’t read from the A: drive.
I am running from a virtual machine, and this happenes if there is no disk in
the drive. If there is a disk in the A: drive, find
I didn't try adding debugging
code. My guess is the problem is either in LFNNextFile and LFNFindStop, or in
the chdir and setdisk above.

Hi listers:
I am running FreeDOS in VMWare player and it's working ok. I did want to try
it in QEMU, and it seems to run ok, but, I need a little help with the
command-line.
What I need is to have a port com1 on the DOS machine which will redirect to
COM4 on my Windows host so as to run a
to get veryold DOS text games to run in a blind-accessible manner. Long storyshort, I made it.Long story long: Joseph Norton put together a FreeDOS bootableinstallation ISO with a DOS screen reader, becoming my hero in theprocess, and using this I was able to install FreeDOS on a virtualmachine using
Hi: FreeDOS command has support for LFN dir since ~15 years. use DIR /LFN for this, or set DIRCMD=/LFN I had no idea about this. Doesn’t seem to be in the help, but, it does work. Of course, one can probably use 4DOS, since there is a free version. Thanks!
Hi there: Thanks for trying this. I’m trying to run this with DOSBox-X. However, your message gave me a clue. Now, I’ll try with VMWare and see what happens. There may be a problem with DOSBox-X’s emulation. I just needed someone else with a different setup to try it. Now, I know it’s on my
Hi listers: I realize this is probably old hat, but, I’m curious about the issue of LFN support on FreeDOS. FreeDOS is touted to support long file names. However, the support for them is commented out, but, of course, easily enabled in fdauto.bat. I do notice that the dir command doesn’t seem to
Hi: Basically, he mentioned that the reason he released it as freeware was that he hadn’t made too much in profits for quite a while. He still plans to work on the product (probably the Windows and Linux versions) when he can, but, is opening things up to the user community. Cheers! Sent from Mail
Hi listers: Just a quick note about the copy of the Semware Editor provided on the Semware Web site: There are 5 user interfaces that can be “burned”into the e.exe editor. By default, the editor is shipped with the default TSE interface. In the UI directory, there are several interface files that
Hi listers: I’m just curious about how you all feel about the use of lfn in FreeDOS (or any real DOS). I notice that the lfn option is rem’d out in the fdauto.bat file by default, so it would appear that, while support seems to be there, the feelings of the developers are leaning toward not using
