Re: [Freedos-user] New web site almost ready to go live
Hi! What is FreeDOS? Is FreeDOS really free? What programs can I run in FreeDOS? How do I install FreeDOS? What do I need to run FreeDOS? How can I contribute to FreeDOS? How to expand to see the answer ? Does it work without JS for Arachne only ? I noticed the same issue by viewing http://www.freedos.org (can http://freedos.org/ be made an alias?) with disabled Javascript in Firefox... I suggest that the DEFAULT should be to EXPAND ALL answers. Only after that, Javascript can be used to fold all-but-one answer. That way, we make sure that all combinations of browsers and plugins can see all answers :-) In a related note, www.tagesschau.de (news) is using a similar folding mechanism for some longer articles and FAQ style info pages: Without Javascript, you see all sections expanded, with all browsers. With Javascript, you see the first section expanded and clicking any section is used to expand that, but there is also a button to expand all sections (only visible when JS is on, as otherwise all sections are statically expanded anyway) which I find nice for printing (could also use CSS here) and screenshots :-) Eric PS: Think of plugins which block animations and ads ;-) -- Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. Judging only from this one screenshot, apparently the questions are hidden (invisible?) except with mouse pointer on them. Right? At least, I can read the last one as saying, What programs can I run in FreeDOS? Re: [Freedos-user] New web site almost ready to go live
Hi (sorry for the lack of feedback, I've been dead) Thanks for your work, looks good, no deep test. What I miss is a news archive (now the oldest item is dos2unix 6.0 2012-05-07 10:35, how to see the older stuff ???). Also it links to the Wiki ... maybe the Wiki should have info about how to acquire write access. -- Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond. Re: [Freedos-user] New web site almost ready to go live
Hi, and thanks for the feedback! There is a link to the news archive. It is at the bottom of the last news item, called 'Read more'. Would the link be more obvious if it were called 'News archive' or 'More news'? What link text would make the most sense? I would be happy to modify the Wiki front page with info about how to get write access. Or others with write access could help by adding this info for me. Actually, now that the web site is done live, I would like to turn attention to the Wiki. We definitely need to have more people contributing to the Wiki, which means it needs to be accessible by more people - especially those who may not contribute code, but are willing to make a few edits in the Wiki. The question is how to find the right balance between open avoiding spam entries. jh On Jun 12, 2012 11:16 PM, dos386 dos...@gmail.com wrote: Hi (sorry for the lack of feedback, I've been dead) Thanks for your work, looks good, no deep test. I think the pages have been updated, so now it's just a matter to test links and make sure everything is working before I move everything to www.freedos.org. Looks fine. Everything I tested worked as expected.
