Re: [Freedos-user] Re: XCDROM bug still there
I was just hoping to have an opensource driver to give out with our boot-disk installer. Anyone know what the copyright is on the VIDE-CDD.SYS driver? I have found several working drivers, just not one that I know I can distribute with another opensource project. - Original Message - *From:* Johnson Lam <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> *To:* TechFan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> *Sent:* Tuesday, January 31, 2006 2:54:05 AM *Subject:* [Freedos-user] Re: XCDROM bug still there > If you tried Win98 boot disk (OAKCDROM.SYS) and the CDROM still have > problem copying files, I strongly feel that your hardware have > problem, not the software. > > Both OAKCDROM.SYS, VIDE-CDD.SYS or MTMATAPI.SYS works fine with all > the CDROM, though all of them working in PIO mode. > > > Rgds, > Johnson. > --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. It is not a hardware problem. Re: [Freedos-user] Re: XCDROM bug still there
Thanks for the response. I am using the latest. . .tried 1.9, then saw 2.0, so I tried that too. I am not sure what details would be most helpful. Is there a way to get a log/debug output. This is in a Dell Optiplex GXa 333 with a single PATA drive and single CDROM (NEC rModel CDR-1900A). Was using SHSUCDX, but updated/switched to SHCDX33A after a few failed attempts (works with other CDROM drivers still). The boot disk tries to copy off the CD. I get Error reading from drive X: data area: drive not ready (A)bort, (R)etry, (F)ail? Abort and Fail actually hang. . .can't do anything but restart. Tried again (this time just a dir command), this time after choosing Abort it spits out "has no label" A couple more Ctrl-C's and I get Invalid Opcode at LOTS-OF-GROUPS-of-4-digit-numbers. I would assume this is all ATA33 since this system and drive is quite old. Thanks again. > Can you give more information? > > I've tried XCDROM in 5 ATA-only PC, all of them works fine (ATA-33), > the SATA also work but in PIO mode. > > Also please grab the latest XCDROM v2.0 > > --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Re: [Freedos-user] Re: XCDROM bug?
Hi Johnson, I'm not sure PACKET writing affect the CD structure or not. You mean in the context of "multi-session"? I agree, I didn't think it was multi-session either. But even Windows have problem access the "DirectCD" disc. I don't really agree with this. I've been using CD-RW packet writing for a long time and Windows 2000/XP has always been able to read UDF "out of the box" from both DirectCD and also from Nero InCD. Under DOS and Win95/98/NT4 there's a UDF driver from Adaptec you can use. However UDF disks sometimes go wrong and can't be read/written to by Windows (or anything else) until they're reformatted. Sometimes you also get "hard" errors where the low level format gets messed up. If he's using a UDF disk, I'm surprised it reads ANY of it under DOS - I thought it needed a driver... -- Gerry Hickman (London UK) --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
