Re: Proposing a new Idea for Freetype

2021-04-03 Thread Sagnik Mitra
Hello Alexei,
We are sorry to propose our "pile of nonsense" idea. Won't do it again.
Both of us liked the website, so thought of some improvement ideas. Good to
hear such words from you.
Also, we haven't mentioned our stacks or idea in detail regarding the "Full
Stack Community Platform with ***Zero*** ***Intelligent*** ***Ideas*** behind
it." as the "initial email" was for just asking if you would take it as a
valid project or not.
Didn't mean to infer anything else about the website or stack from our mail.
Thanks,

Sagnik Mitra & Manish Kumar Barnwal

Hi Sagnik,

Ok. In that case, you have to be specific about your ideas. What is that
you find messy and what to improve? General "Full Stack" won't fly with us.
You can submit your proposal to GSoC, but we do not give any guarantees up
front. We have limited number of slots and our priorities are identified.

In comparison, we stack pretty good. I do not see much need in
improvement here. In other words, it's better be justified.

This was in reference to Werner's suggestion to improve the website. When
we migrated the documentation to markdown, I had done a markdown version
for the contents of freetype.org as well (should still be live at
https://nikramakrishnan.github.io/freetype-web-jekyll/).

No objections here. The website stuff too isn't sufficient for a GSoC
project.

Starting point for what?

The initial email is a pile of nonsense: Backend to Frontend, Full
Stack Community Platform with ***Zero*** ***Intelligent*** ***Ideas***
hehind it.

Our documentation website is much better than our peers' ones. We did
transition to markdown website too. We use GitLab infrastructure to
support the developer community.

What else, Nikhil?

Thanks,
Alexei

Quick note: We do have a markdown version of the website from a few years
ago that we never actually transitioned to. Maybe that could be used as a
starting point?

Thanks for your offer, but no. The 'official' communication channels
for FreeType are intentionally e-mail only. Having other forums would
mean a lot of additional work for maintenance, which we can't afford
time-wise.

If you want to improve our website, please do so by submitting
*incremental improvements* as patches! If you would like to do bigger
changes this must be discussed in advance on 'freetype-devel'.

Your proposal does not make sense to me at all. Therefore, I am vehemently
against it.

Hello Moazin,

Through Community Platform, I meant a Full Stack Forum for the upcoming
contributors or the Developers within where they can interact with each
other. And also, we have planned about improving the landing page and other
linked pages, if you allow us to do so.

Manish
