Probably some odd combination of options for xine, have your tried
turning debugging on to find out what the child apps are doing:

I reinstalled Freevo recently and I'm having trouble getting mpeg
decoding working. In the past I would just do:
VIDEO_PREFERED_PLAYER = 'xine -V xxmc'
and it would work. Now there a new setting:
VIDEO_USE_XVMC = 1
which I've tried in combination with both:
VIDEO_PREFERED_PLAYER = 'xine -V
