It is a 2005 iMac g5 (ALS). It should have 3 Phillips screws on the bottom. If
it does, open it and look for signs of leakage on the capacitors. Otherwise,
I'd say the hard drive is dead.

It is an issue with how the version is listed. There is a plist edit that fixes
it. Google will help you find the fix.

Neither. Software was installed to allow such things to happen.
At my place of employment, we can and do do this at the drop of a hat - but the
machines are set up for remote access.

The tape you are looking at helps to create an EMFI Shield to comply with FCC
guidelines about radio interference.
Do you need it? No. It will not effect the operation of your computer in the
least.
If you have a Radio telescope, it will interfere with that though

Breaking Federal law? Err. IANAL, but I don't get it. You violate
the EULA, which would maybe violate contract laws, but what federal
law do you speak of? I know some have mentioned the DMCA - but it
doesn't apply here because there is no copyright protection
circumvention.

The issue is simple. While it is indeed legal for you to posess a
"back up" copy of a commercially produced DVD that you have purchased,
it is NOT legal to break the copy protection on said DVD. Thank your
Senators and representatives for that little catch 22.
