What's the latest on Leopard's Treatment of USB2, Wireless ethernet, Combo NIC(10/100/1000)/USB2/FW400 PCI connectors?
Under 10.5.5 on my QS Dual 1GHz, I continue to have intermittent kernal panics most likely related to an Airlink 101 USB 2 wireless ethernet connector. Here's a description of the Airlink: http://www.airlink101.com/products/awll3026.php Wondering if anyone has a 11/16/08 solution for this? I have driver's but they seem to stop with 10.4 and above. This kp thing occurs whether I'm connected to a USB2 PCI card (Sonnet's Trio) or the onboard USB 1.1 of the QS, or a USB 1.1 of a Sonnet Tango (USB1.1/ FW). I'm concerned it's messing up my OS by having kp's. Here's the Airlink/Zydas link for drivers: http://www.airlink101.com/support/index.php?cmd=filesid=58 In another G3-G5 thread, someone reports maybe this driver would work, although I cannot get it connected for my wireless USB device: http://www.macwireless.com/html/products/wireless_cards/11n_cards/ 11nUSB.php xlr8yourmac folks report a Rosewill PCI ethernet card might solve my problem (getting rid of the wireless altogether): http://www.rosewill.com/products/425/productDetail.htm And another xlr8yourmac report suggest the (non-Mac) SIIG NIC/FW/ USB2 combo card may/may not work, and/or because of the PCI-PCI bridge, you may/most likely will experience reduced efficiency: http://www.compuvest.com/Description.jsp?iid=589595 Here's the xlr8yourmac Networking page: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/os_x_network_cards.html I guess solving the problem by switching to a PCI card and hardwired ethernet would be the most stable. Suggestions? Any experience with the SIIG combo card under OS X 10.5.5? Would be nice to also add USB2 as well as solve my ethernet connection issue. It has the Realtek 8169 chipset that seems to be favored still by Leopard, as does the Rosewill PCI card. Curious about real tests on the USB2 and FW parts of the SIIG combo in a G4. Re: Running a G4 Mac, off Open Firmware.
Is it possible to run a G4 Mac, without an OS, or a working HDD, by using Open Firmware? That depends on what you are willing to accept as 'running'. 'Open Firmware' IS a FORTH operating system. There are FORTH resources available on-line --- try GOOGLE To give yourself a tantalizing look at what may be possible, at the OF prompt, enter words (return) Thank you for the info --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Re: Disable Registration prompt Quicken 2005
On Oct 25, 3:13 pm, Bruce Johnson [EMAIL PROTECTED] hers's an article http://www.linux.com/articles/49400 I noticed in an earlier 2006 post Danielle asking about Quicken 2005-6 reviews and Byron G. responding that 2005 was buggy. I don't do all the fancy stuff with Quicken that seem to be the major concern about the bugs in these recent versions. So, I've been muddling along with 2005 after leaving '98 Classic and enduring a few minor crashes. But then I suffered a bigger one that left me unable to open my Quicken file. Fortunately, I had a backup and only had to re-entry a day's work. So I returned here and began looking at some of the alternatives to which Bruce points. I also came across a notice that Unsanity's MenuMaster was incompatible with Quicken 2005 and so Q2005 needed to be added to the MM disable list. I've done this and hope this makes a difference. I'd rather not have to endure the learning curve to switch to MoneyDance, or whatever. How do I run an old monitor on sawtooth.
G'day listers A while ago I posted a question about whether or not a monitor or radeon 7000 card would be defunct on my neighbors Sawtooth. I've just managed to get an old 21 monitor off a G3 tower to try, but the plugs are different. Is there a converter available to go from the Radeon to the monitor?
