If it still has the white factory label on the back you can use the ATI
102 number lookup to id the card

http://apps.ati.com/102lookup/

If it's a PC card, you *perhaps* might flash it with a Mac Rom. No
 guarantee, though.

AFAIK no one ever successfully flashed a PC 7500 across to mac - some
graphics cards just will not convert to mac and I think that's one of them.

Maybe it would be better find a more Mac-compatible PC graphic card.
Last year I got a (PC) Radeon X800XT card for just 25 pounds, and I think it
 might be flashed.

The X800 is also problematical to convert.

Certain parts of the rom are write protected if using a pc for the flashing
- hence the vnc and panther - and the dvi port is kaputnice looking card
though.

Thank you for the link!
It's clearly explained in that page.

 - hence the vnc and panther - and the dvi port is kaputnice looking card
 though.
If I got it right, after the flashing the DVI port is still operational.
It just outputs an analog (not digital anymore) signal, hence just VGA
monitor (using a DVI to VGA adapter).
Since I still own analog (VGA) monitors, it's no problem to me.

Regarding the OP question, I mentioned my X800XT just as an example about
buying PC cards for cheap (and not bothering much with the 7500).
I still think the Radeon 9800 could be his best option.

I did not see if the OP was looking for a card for a G3, G4, or G5
PowerMac, but agree that the Radeon 9800 is probably the best choice
for all three PowerMac series, but for my dual 2.7GHz G5, I prefer my
converted Radeon FireGL X3 256mb VRAM card. Some versions of the
Radeon FireGL X3 might not work in the G4 PowerMac's, but some will,
from what I have read and heard from friends. Although I own both a
G4 and G5 PowerMac, I don't feel compelled to test my FireGL X3 by
removing it from my G5 PowerMac and taping the appropriate pins to
allow it to work inside my G4 PowerMac's 4x AGP slot.

plug-ins update problem

2012-05-31 Thread jazpersn
Hi, Y'all,

Using a PowerPC G-4 (3.3) Dual Processor MDD 1.42 Ghz machine

For a couple of weeks now I have been getting a Notice of vulnerable
or out of date plug-ins used by 'this page'. This page being almost
any on-line page. I have not noticed any real problems on any of these
pages. However, when I dutifully try to update the ones listed, I get
a variety of info: Adobe stuff tells me Apple has its own Adobe pages
or I am told that Apple Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 is no longer
supported by Adobe. When I check into Quick Time stuff, my machine
tells me my Quick Time player IS v.7.6.4 (SEE BELOW) and other Quick
Time stuff IS v. 7.6.4
I did attempt to do Java plug-in updates but didn't feel like I
succeeded.

How important is this particular stuff? This information below comes
up on a Mozilla page that results when I click Update Plug-inson the
top-of-page yellow notice bar line that I have been getting. I DO
update almost everything that comes from Mac software update pages.

If this stuff does not need to be done or if it is usually taken care
of by Mac software updates, how can I keep this yellow bar notice from
popping up constantly? That notice is at the top of the page at
present as I am preparing to send this eMail! Hopefully, TIA Jim

IIRC, his it's an AGP G4 450.
I think the FireGL X3 would be overkill in a 450 MHz Mac. :-)
