Performa 5300 flashing disk with ?
Hi everyone. I decided to give an old Performa 5300 a go. the built in monitor comes up and a disk with a question mark that keeps flashing. Followup report so far: 1. Console does not say anything when I try to put the computer to sleep. When I do that using the keyboard power button and selecting Sleep in the dialogue box, the dialogue box disappears but nothing further happens. 2. I think that FireWire on the Mini and on the external drive may both be kaput. I plugged the external drive into a Mac Pro and it did not show up. I also plugged a different external drive into the Mini and it did not show up (does show up on the Mac Pro). 3. I did a safe boot and reinstalled the OS 10.4.11 combo updater; did not resolve the problem. Next move I think will be to back up my files (via USB or Ethernet), erase the HD, and re-install the OS. PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5 Boot Issue

I actually fixed it with the sellers advice. What you do is get that craft wire and fold it over four times and twist it to make it a relatively strong bundle. Re: I am forced to go Intel? Common rant, I guess.
The reason why the battery can't be replaced is because it is so large, lasts 10, 7 or 8 hours depending on your model and can take up to 1000 cycles. How does Steve Jobs decide what runs on Mac OS X??? An iMac with a Radeon 6970 coupled to a Sandy Bridge Core i7 is a bad hardware decision??? Apple's x86 hardware uses Intel TPM. There are some at Apple who deny this, but the fact that Apple releases enablers to allow other operating systems to run seems to indicate that the TPM is really there and implemented. Now, I could turn out to be wrong about this, and I would be happy to be proven wrong about this. Absent sufficient evidence on the lack of TPM, I have no interest whatsoever in Apple x86 hardware. I have the quaint belief that when I buy a computer, I get to decide what runs on it. I am accused of being insufficiently deferential to his Steveness, and I accept that as true. I won't use a computer where someone else can turn it off at will and decide what I can and cannot run. OSX is quite nice, but the hardware decisions of his Steveness have been pretty bad lately, anyway. For just one complaint of many, what kind of idiot would design a laptop or media player where you can't replace the battery? Re: Will a QS2002 Dual-1GHz CPU work in a QS?
Speaking of LBA48... Yellow Dog Linux and Debian Linux both report and use the full 250 GB (because that is the size of my HD) in my QS 2001. But Mac OS 10.5 sees it as a 128 GB drive. I know this has nothing to do with the thread. But good info none the less. Actually, the only significant difference is the ROM on the mobo, and it DOES NOT support LBA48 in the QS 2001, whereas it DOES support LBA48 in the QS 2002. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Why does anyone care about rich text/plain text. This isn't the 90's anymore! If your computer can't read rich text then you need to do some serious updates! Ok... I won't use read I'll use display. Sounds like you've done some serious updating if your PowerBook 1400 has a consciousness and can read.
