Why doesn't my little drive opening dohicky work?
Hi, Y'all, I just today put a new PS in my PM MDD 800 G4/142 DP. Had to reset the clock, and I'm sure I will have to make some other adjustments. BUT soo much quieter. We'll get into mouse problems in a later post. Right now I can't get my super drive to open. I've got the arrow dohicky in my top menu, but when I click on it , it says No Drives. I rechecked my connections. Everything looks and feels OK. l should probably do what? Power supply for G4 MDD

Preparing my new G4 MDD 1.42GHz 'puter
Hi, Got the above mentioned computer Wed. Couple of, hopefully, simple questions. I have loads of bookmarks on my old Sawtooth. Is there an easy way to transfer them over into FireFox Bookmarks? I have been able to save them to a Flash drive and they are live when I open up the flash in my MDD. 2nd ? I will tackle the NOISE problem next. It is solvable, isn't it? I'm fairly certain that this problem is discussed at some length in the g3-5-list archive if someone would remind me or instruct me how to access the Archives. Thanks. Putting SATA drive into PM Mirrored Door G4/1.42
Hello, a few weeks ago I had a G5 go dark, Power Supply blown. Fixing would cost too much. Bought a PM Mirrored Door FW 800 G4/1.42 GHz Dual Processor. The G5 had a 160 GB SATA HD. (Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9). I know I need a PCI sata controller card. Would just any do? Doubt it. What would be a low-cost card that would do the job. I know this has been discussed muchas on this list. Is there an archive that would help with this? TIA. Re: My G5 won't start up
Hello, Have made some decisions. Have checked out best I can. Burned up Power Supply at least. No discernible coolant leakage damage. Howsomever replacement PS and labor look to run $350 to $450 at best. Best PS replacement for me to do work $225-$275. I don't have the confidence anymore to fiddle with removing and then reinstalling TWO processors. You have to strip a lot of stuff to get to PS. Cost is over to well-over what I paid for this computer. I will scrap it, salvaging whatever I can that can be used on my old but reliable Sawtooth until I save enough out of my pension to buy another Mac with better potential longevity. Thanks and sorry about messing up my earlier attempt to reply. My G5 won't start up
Hi, Y'All, This morning when I went into my computer/library, I detected a strong electrical smell. The computer system had been shut down Thursday night and was still off this morning. I suspected at first my flourescent magnifying lamp had a fried ballast. So not being that handy, I shut down everything electrical and called the family electrician. He hasn't made it yet. HD Data Recovery
Hello, My old G4 Sawtooth is being phased out. Been having HD problems for a while. The HD I want to recover files and stuff from is a Maxtor 60gig 5400. I had two HDs. The other was a 10g Maxtor 7200. I made the 10g my boot drive and used the larger for storage. The 60 kept getting worse and worse. Making a lot of runup noise and pings and pops. Sometimes it wouldn't mount. I would then let it cool and could occasionally get it back onto my desktop. I retrieved as much as I could with a little jump drive a little at a time. Mostly music and pictures left. Bought an 8GB Lexar today to try to get the last bits off. BUT so far today no luck in mounting the 60g. I've booting with OS CD, tried as best I could with Disk Utility. It tells me it needs repair; it tries to repair, then says it can't; and subsequently tells me I need to maybe use a third party disk utility. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Correct USB extension cable?
Hello, When I googled for a USB extension cable for the keyboard that came with my refurbished non-Intel G5 desktop, I got many replies and many said This cable will work with the older G5 keyboards that have two USB ports - one on each side. I was cautioned it would not work with the keyboards that shipped with Intel G5s. The keyboard that came with my computer has its USB cable running from the back center edge thence to the tower with a USB port on each side of that cable in the back center of the kb. The cable extension is not a high priced item, but I do not want to waste time buying wrong one to begin with. Does anyone recognize the keyboard and know which extension cable I need? Further info: on bottom back of kbrd is Designed in California.Model No. A1048 Also at on top center back of kybrd is the following code with nothing else KY5040P5GQL38 The keyboard is white enclosed in a clear plastic tray. The tray comes about half way up on the keys. Does any of this indicate what extension I should buy? -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Can't copy from my computer after changing ink cartridges
Hello, List, I have a Sawtooth 400MHz PowerPC G4 - 1G RAM - using OS X 10.2.8. I have both an Epson Stylus CX8400 AIO and an Epson PictureMate PM240 printer connected to my computer through a D-Link USB DUB-H7 USB 2.0 Hub. Everything working well until last night when I changed my three color cartridges out on the AIO. Now I can't print to either printer. Test head checks are ok. I can copy and print ok. I scanned a small document into my Photoshop Elements 2.0 application successfully. *BUT* I can't print anything from my computer. The only new app I have messed with is an upgrade to my Thunderbird email program. I downloaded a Thunderbird 2.00.21.dmg file to the desktop, opened it, and tried to mount it. It seemed to fail and gave me the reason, You don't have enough permission(s). I don't see any real connection to my printing problem, but thought I should give y'all as much information as possible. Thought before I uninstall everything, delete Epson Printer Utility2, and then reinstall the Epson software from the CD as recommended by the Epson CD User Manual, I would see if the list had any advice that might be a little less daunting to an old retired school teacher like me. Re: Can't copy from my computer after changing ink cartridges
Hi, again, Already anticipating a question from the list. When I check the Print Center, Printer List is displayed with the Stylus CX8400 selected and Status listed *Stopped. *Go deeper and click Start jobs - Opening printer connection is displayed running approx. 5secs. Then it stops and Jobs stopped is redisplayed. Just more info to show as clear a picture as possible. Any reason to keep OS 9.2.2 if not used 6 mos?
Hi, I haven't used OS 9.2.2 for at least 6 months. Is there any real reason to keep it on my machine? My apps and files that I use regularly are written for the OS X system. I have OS X 10.2.8 on a separate drive. I have been very careful to put only OS X stuff on my machine. I would like to clean the HD with 9.2.2 off and reformat and use it for picture and music storage. Is there any reason I shouldn't? Any operating system problems that might arise?
