For an easy to install method, I've used PogoPlug.
It started as a hardware addon to create a cloud accessible Harddrive,
but now is a software offering.
The free version allows file transfer but no streaming audio/video,
the paid level allows this.

I am considering what to do since Verizon dropped the ability to use
ftp with my artsite, through Adobe Golive. I could buy space on
something like GoDaddy.com, but I don't care for the idea of another
internet bill. Paying
