The door should be connected to a small spring. It sounds like your
spring is not attached anymore.
The door is easily removed. Open the tower and locate the plastic
tabs that hold the door in place. Gently push the tabs in (they are
on 1 side of the door) and the door should release.

There is no connection between the door and tray per se. There is a plastic
piece behind the metal door that has a protrusion on each side of the inside
of the sliding door which the cd tray hits as it comes out, forcing the door
down. The door probably has a spring (or 2) somewhere to pull it
