Having just introduced my B&W G3 PowerMac to its first non-CRT display,
I've hit a problem. It's an AOC 2050 20" monitor with a native
resolution of 1600x900.
In OSX 10.4 (via a drive moved from my now deceased G3 iMac) and MacOS
9.2.2 it works fine in this resolution (looks great), but in Mac

was wrong. The 8.6 extensions are slightly older. If I can't find any
newer ones to download I'll try the 9.2.2 ones.

To cut a long story short, I'd like to try to get my Dazzle* Hollywood
DV bridge working and the only Mac likely to work with it is my old B&W
G3 Powermac.
Unfortunately the built-in Firewire ports no longer work (a common issue
on this model I believe). Even after replacing the FW module no e
Great...thanks.
I've used PCI USB2 cards in the PowerMac without issues; I wasn't sure
about something more unusual like Firewire.

I didn't say "unusual"...I said "more unusual" :p
Which Firewire clearly is when it comes to PCI cards, compared with USB

...I wasn't aware that the NEC chipset was the preferred one.
The ones I briefly looked at yesterday on Amazon UK seemed to be all
Texas Instruments, which I think is also on my G3's motherboard. I'll
steer clear of those and try your suggestion.

I've got a 2014 Mac mini that on 2 separate occasions corrupted its hard
drive so successfully that OSX (I think it was El Capitan) would start
booting and then after about 20-30 seconds just shutdown.
Not much fun but on the positive side...it wasn't the PSU.

Well, it turns out that the replacement internal FW module does work
after all...unfortunately I only discovered this *after* I had ordered a
TI-chipset FW 400 card and thought that wasn't working either. It turns
out that my testing was at fault.
