Yes, you will be able to play the game using a basic stario soundcard
and headphones. In fact, at the moment I am using a 2D sound engine
which is working fine for recognising the location of items and monsters.

Yes, definitely. The TR game engine is based off the Monty engine, but
is being upgraded quite allot to handle the special needs of TR. There
are so many things that needs doing that the full production will have
to wait until Monty and Raceway are out.
