Hi Kirstan,

That's because the developer of the mud clients has failed to update
the mud client to meet current design standards. Its not the fault of
Microsoft but the client's developer.

For example, every operating system since Windows 2000 is suppose to
store settings and and other personal data in the user's local app
data folder. On XP the files for Mush should go in
c:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Mush 4.84
and on Windows 7 they should go in
c:\Users\User Name\App Data\Roming\Mush 4.84
which is usually pretty easy to obtain through the Windows API.
However, many developers continues saving personal files to
c:\Program Files
even when Microsoft consistently told developers to abandon the
practice and use the user's local App Data folder instead for personal
files and data.

Anyway, as of Windows Vista Microsoft added a new security service,
User Account Control, which was an attempt to give Windows Vista,
Windows 7, and Windows 8 similar security found on Mac OS and Linux by
blocking read/write access to system directories etc which could be
infected by malware like viruses and worms. Problem is Microsoft has
added the security Windows needs to help keep the OS safe from
malware, but many developers have not upgraded their software to be
User Account Control compliant for one reason or another. So we the
users have to make a choice to either disable the new security
service, or find a workaround for the problem. That's why you can't
just install a client like Mush and run it on Windows 7. Its because
the developer/developers havn't taken the time to fix their programs
to run properly on Windows 7.

As for gmud I have never tried that one. Its worth a try though. The
only way to know if it works is to try it. You know what they say,
nothing ventured nothing gained.

Cheers!

[Audyssey] smugglers 5 couple questions.

2012-10-26 Thread Darren Harris
Hi all,

Firstly, I've been trying to find out how you get the spy sensors on the
upgrades. I've found out for definite that it's a targeting system upgrade
for destroyers but I've tried that with a destroyer and a cruiser and I've
not ever found it.

Secondly, I've reached the rank of captain at last and I thought that when
you reached captain you get the ability to choose factory owner. At the
moment it's there in the skill tree but I still cannot click on it.

Third, has anybody actually completed the game and won the war? If so does
the game just end after that?

Also, I've gone and bought about 5m's worth of war bonds. I assume this
helps with capital for your faction to produce/purchase new warships which
will help win the war. Have I got this right or is there more to this?

Lastly, how can you tell apart from visually how many systems your faction
has under it's control? I haven't worked that one out yet.

Hi Darren.

About the spy sensors, niels does claime they're a targiting systems
upgrade, but I haven't seen them for sale either, askking him again help
here sinse they're not listed in the manual or from what I gather in the
upgrades available forcorvets or crusers (I'll know about destroyers
when i get one).

for factory owner, what I suspect is that it is further down the skill tree
and you need some of the subsidiary skills first, but how the tree works is
only shown visually, ditto with what systems your factions controls.

As regards influence, well on the bank screen where you buy war bonds it
says what influence you have. The better the influence, the better your
bonds are helping win the war, however the more your federation controls,
the more bonds you need to buy to maintain better influence, so traders
need to make lots of money if they expect to win the war that way.

Re: [Audyssey] smugglers 5 couple questions.

2012-10-26 Thread Darren Harris
Yeah I've asked him this about the sensors and that's all he would say. I
guess what we really need is for someone sighted to confirm that it's not
something that we as screen reader users can't click on for whatever reason.
Then we'd know if it's actually something we need to unlock in the game or
whether it's a case of accessibility.

Have you spoken to niels about accessibility recently?

Re: [Audyssey] smugglers 5 couple questions.

2012-10-26 Thread dark

Hi Darren.

well I've got some of my friends coming around tomorrow for a post phd bash,
I'll ask.

As for the skills screen though, as this Cp from recent update shows, there
is good news there:

 What´s new?
Smugglers 5 V. 1.0.3:
- Bug fixed: There was a graphical glitch on the upgrade
screen.
- Bug fixed: When upgrading the targeting system there
was message popup stating wrongly that you upgraded
your engines.
- Blind compatibility mode: On the skill screen you can
now read which skills you must first acquire in order to
select the chosen skill.
- Blind compatibility mode fix: During ship combat the
special window poping up with extra messages for the
blind sometimes have had a cannot make this window
visible error message.
- Blind compatibility mode: Selections in the option menu
now explicitly labeled as ON or OFF.
- Blind compatibility mode: There was a question about
the tutorial screen blocking parts of the main screens. The
solution is that you can use the minimize button on the
tutorial window to close it.
Smugglers 5 V. 1.0.2:
- Blind compatibility mode: Skills on the second row of
the combat screen display now have corrected labels.

So good news on that score, especially for me sinse I'm going back to my
flat today and will continue my bounty hunter game (i forgot to copy it onto
my laptop which is why I've not played recently).

All the best,

Dark.
