Re: [Audyssey] A Dark Room hard mode questions

2014-12-22 Thread dark

Hi Sly.

Spoilers ahoy!

Where are you in the game? The builder does disappear very much later on,
but only when you have visited the Iron mine, coal mine and sulphur mine,
have the alien ship and are collecting alien alloy, and by that point you
shouldn't need the traps.

You only lose your equipment if you die in the wilderness, either killed in
battle or by hunger an thirst, or if you leave it on the ground in a loot
scenario. Hardmode is! hard there is no doubts about it, though to make life
easier I did write this guide:

http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=13639

which hopefully should be helpful.

Hth.

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Anyone Else Having Problems with Audiogames.net

2014-12-22 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

I am having no problems at all at this point, an to be honest I don't know
what you mean about down more than it is up sinse I personally check the
site several times a day and find very much the opposite, indeed over the
last week I've been spending several hours a day on the site doing major
updates to the database. I have seen the sight hickup on a couple of
occasions, (although I actually can't think of any this month), but usually
these are sorted by refreshing the page.

I don't know if the hosting has had issues, but certainly I haven't noticed
anything bad enough to warrent someone being sick of the site as you said.

All the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] Anyone Else Having Problems with Audiogames.net

2014-12-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

The site appears to be working now, but it wasn't working at all a few
hours ago when I tried to access the site. I couldn't access it via
any web browser, and even tried to ping the host and got a 100% packet
loss. Meaning the server was off line or was unreachable from my PC.

As to my comment about Audiogames.net it just seems I have had a lot
of issues with that particular site this past year. Some of it was
because the site was hacked a few months back which was no fault of
you or the site maintainers, and some were from other issues as yet
unknown. In either case it is frustrating to try and access a site and
not being able to reach it for some unexplained reason.

What happened to me last night has happened to me before. I'd try and
bring up Audiogames.net and get a typical 404 error that the site is
unavailable. When I try to bring up Google, Audyssey, or some other
site the page loads just fine. So I tend not to think it is my PC or
my connection, but something funky is up with the Audiogames.net
server because that seems to be the only site/server I have problems
accessing for some unknown reason with an alarming regularity.

Cheers!

2014-12-22 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

As I said that is a little odd, given that in the past week I've spent hours
on the site and forum editing the db. While the server had a few hickups in
November, I don't remember seeing any this month. I wonder if it's something
to do with connections over seas, or maybe night cycles sinse the time you
report the problem happening was three in the morning over hear in Europe.

If you get anymore problems of this level in persistance, you should
probably contact richard and Sander, sinse they're actually the webmasters
of the site and in charge of the server and it's hosting.

All the best,

Re: [Audyssey] Anyone Else Having Problems with Audiogames.net

2014-12-22 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,

I wasn't really talking about this week specifically. As far as this
past week or so goes things have been fine until last night. I was
speaking more of having issues on and off this year. They come and go
intermittently and aren't tied to any specific time of day or anything
I can determine to be a pattern. I just try to access the site, get a
404, and come back a few hours later and it works fine.

However, you may be right about it being a problem specific to
connections from over seas. Audiogames.net is based in Europe and I'm
over here in the USA, and while that shouldn't be a problem such
things aren't completely unheard of either. What I should do next time
I get the error/problem is try and run a few diagnostic tests and try
and figure out what is causing the connection issues. Perhaps it is on
the server itself and Richard and Sander can fix it, perhaps it is my
PC, or it could be something else completely independent of either
causing the connection issues.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Anyone Else Having Problems with Audiogames.net

2014-12-22 Thread dark

Hi Tom.

that might be an idea. I certainly don't remember seeing anything as
seriously intermitant as you describe. I remember a couple of miner hickups
a few weeks ago where I'd get a 404 or sorry we couldn't access the server
but hitting F5 to refresh the page solved that problem, and I've not seen it
now for a good while as I said. Usually If I find the site completely
inactive for more than a couple of hours or so I'll drop Richard and Sander
a line, but the last time that happened was due to the hacking as you said.

Sorry it's causing you additional trouble.

All the best,

Dark.

[Audyssey] ms-dos works great!

2014-12-22 Thread Josh k
hey i found it. I found it I found it! the ultimate ms-dos solution!
download and install the following google them... you have to google
search the following!

python 2.6 found at ftp.compuconference.com
pyserial
com0com

install them! oh and you'll also need an old copy of vmware player 4.0
get it from filehippo or from the old vinux virtual edition. now follow
these directions pasted below. run the virtual bns server and let the
command prompt window open at all times when running the virtual
machine! if you do it right, you will hav windows3.1 and dos with
window-eyes with windows3.1 and you will also have a a registered ASAP
screen reader and it is very very responsive! asap and window-eyes for
windows3.1 will talk using espeak! and you will also get pc speaker
beeps and boop sounds through your laptop or desktop speakers or sound
card. so go have fun and use a real live ms-dos and windows 3.1 again!
have fun!

What you'll need
*python 2.6
*com0com
*pyserial
*vmware player or workstation
How to set this up
1. install python 2.6, then pyserial and finally com0com
2. When you've installed com0com, go to its start menu group, and pick
setup.

3. the tree view should be set for virtual pare 0.
4. Enter COM8 in the first field, and COM9 in the second field, then
press space/enter on the apply button.

5. close the setup utility
Ok, the serial ports are now ready. Here is how you run the actual synth.
Go into a command prompt, then navigate where you've stored your
virtual bns folder. IE

cd C:\bns
If you get a prompt such as
C:\bns
Then you're fine to actually launch the virtual braille n' speak. to do
that, assuming you've installed python in the default location, you
enter C:\python26\python emu.py com9
After a few seconds, you should hear eSpeak say ready. just leave the
window open

Now, you can boot the virtual machine. It has a copy of ASAP for dos
access. (to run that, type C: to make sure you're on the c drive, then
enter s.bat.)
It also has a copy of windows 3.1 with window-eyes 1.1. to run that,
first make sure that you don't have ASAP running, then just type in win.
you should hear a chime and speech should come on.

Ok, then another question - does window eyes launch automatically if you
then launch windows, or does it also need the sort of virtual com port?

Ask since that vmWare image has pretty much the same name as the one have

although, do hear windows startup sound if type in win in dos bootup, and
hit enter, but not much else happens?

Ask since that vmWare image has pretty much the same name as the one
have here already, where window eyes doesn't seem to be launching,
since although, do hear windows startup sound if type in win in dos
bootup, and hit enter, but not much else happens?

hey i found it. I found it I found it! the ultimate ms-dos
solution! download and install the following google them... you
have to google search the following!

python 2.6 found at ftp.compuconference.com
pyserial
com0com

install them! oh and you'll also need an old copy of vmware player
4.0 get it from filehippo or from the old vinux virtual edition.
now follow these directions pasted below. run the virtual bns
server and let the command prompt window open at all times when
running the virtual machine! if you do it right, you will hav
windows3.1 and dos with window-eyes with windows3.1 and you will
also have a a registered ASAP screen reader and it is very very
responsive! asap and window-eyes for windows3.1 will talk using
espeak! and you will also get pc speaker beeps and boop sounds
through your laptop or desktop speakers or sound card. so go have
fun and use a real live ms-dos and windows 3.1 again! have fun!

What you'll need
*python 2.6
*com0com
*pyserial
*vmware player or workstation
How to set this up
1. install python 2.6, then pyserial and finally com0com
2. When you've installed com0com, go to its start menu group, and
pick setup.

3. the tree view should be set for virtual pare 0.
4. Enter COM8 in the first field, and COM9 in the second field,
then press space/enter on the apply button.

5. close the setup utility
Ok, the serial ports are now ready. Here is how you run the actual
synth.
Go into a command prompt, then navigate where you've stored your
virtual bns folder. IE

cd C:\bns
If you get a prompt such as
C:\bns
Then you're fine to actually launch the virtual braille n' speak.
to do that, assuming you've installed python in the default
location, you enter C:\python26\python emu.py com9
After a few seconds, you should hear eSpeak say ready. just leave
the window open

Now, you can boot the virtual machine. It has a copy of ASAP for
dos access. (to run that, type C: to make sure you're on the c
drive, then enter s.bat.)
It also has a copy of windows 3.1 with window-eyes 1.1. to run
that, first make sure that you don't have ASAP running, then just
type in win. you should hear a chime and speech should come on.

[Audyssey] Alter Aeon 2014 Year End Celebration

2014-12-22 Thread Dennis Towne
Our year end celebration starts on Wednesday, December 24, and will
continue all the way through January first! We have several sets of
events planned, including present cannons, teleporting gifts, mob
arenas, and an event area with quests.

In addition to the events, the advent calendar will be giving out
daily gifts to players. We'll also be adding a number of new spells
and skills every day or two.

Lastly, don't forget that Alter Aeon's big 20th anniversary is also
approaching. The main event for the anniversary is planned to start
on the 15th of January, and last through the weekend.

We hope to see you there!

yes before you run vmware player pyserial and python 2.6 and com0com
must be installed and configurd correctly and you must have the virtual

Ok, and under device manager, there are two virtual com ports showing up,
and both have a type of windows7 warning on them that device drivers can't
be verified, so am maybe guessing that windows7 says no go, or something.

yes before you run vmware player pyserial and python 2.6 and com0com must
be installed and configurd correctly and you must have the virtual bns
server running and keep that command window open while the vm runs.

window-eyes launches automatically and it uses the virtual braille n

comes up talking.

Ok, then another question - does window eyes launch automatically if
you then launch windows, or does it also need the sort of virtual com

Ask since that vmWare image has pretty much the same name as the one
have here already, where window eyes doesn't seem to be launching,
since although, do hear windows startup sound if type in win in dos
bootup, and hit enter, but not much else happens?

Will download it, and try it out as well, but let's see.

hey i found it. I found it I found it! the ultimate ms-dos solution!
download and install the following google them... you have to google
search the following!

python 2.6 found at ftp.compuconference.com
pyserial
com0com

install them! oh and you'll also need an old copy of vmware player
4.0 get it from filehippo or from the old vinux virtual edition. now
follow these directions pasted below. run the virtual bns server and
let the command prompt window open at all times when running the
virtual machine! if you do it right, you will hav windows3.1 and dos
with window-eyes with windows3.1 and you will also have a a
registered ASAP screen reader and it is very very responsive! asap
and window-eyes for windows3.1 will talk using espeak! and you will
also get pc speaker beeps and boop sounds through your laptop or
desktop speakers or sound card. so go have fun and use a real live
ms-dos and windows 3.1 again! have fun!

What you'll need
*python 2.6
*com0com
*pyserial
*vmware player or workstation
How to set this up
1. install python 2.6, then pyserial and finally com0com
2. When you've installed com0com, go to its start menu group, and
pick setup.

3. the tree view should be set for virtual pare 0.
4. Enter COM8 in the first field, and COM9 in the second field, then
press space/enter on the apply button.

5. close the setup utility
Ok, the serial ports are now ready. Here is how you run the actual
synth.
Go into a command prompt, then navigate where you've stored your
virtual bns folder. IE

cd C:\bns
If you get a prompt such as
C:\bns
Then you're fine to actually launch the virtual braille n' speak. to
do that, assuming you've installed python in the default location,
you enter C:\python26\python emu.py com9
After a few seconds, you should hear eSpeak say ready. just leave
the window open

Now, you can boot the virtual machine. It has a copy of ASAP for
dos access. (to run that, type C: to make sure you're on the c
drive, then enter s.bat.)
It also has a copy of windows 3.1

Re: [Audyssey] ms dos

2014-12-22 Thread Jacob Kruger
Thanks, Josh, but, no worries - that might be a somewhat local saying - but,
although it's been like 20 years - literally - since I did much with these
forms of operating system interface, and while was sighted back then, I was
already a programmer/support technician, so it shouldn't be an issue - only
thing to figure out now is how to access a form of VMWare network share from
dos, but, my guess is that \\VMShare should do it, if I want to copy files
into virtual file system off my host machine - and, BTW, it's comfortable
with me hosting this under VMWare player 9.0, and python 2.7 is also happy
to work with brailleNSpeak virtual version now that com0com drivers are
happy/working, FWIW.

And, lastly, since I'm here in South Africa, I would need to do something
like a VOIP call to that number, and we might in fact be better off chatting
via e-mail, since while English is my mother tongue, I know I have a bit of
an accent compared to other countries...smile

[Audyssey] puzzle? or bug

I opened sixth sense this afternoon and breezed through the tutorial, or
instructional exercise, how ever you want to view it as. Everything worked OK.
Then, after being shown how to reload my weapon, a zombie was turned loose.
Although I swiped in the right direction and lifted my finger as in the opening
part of the game, nothing happened. Is this a bug? or am I missing something.
If so, what? Thanks.

Ok, created the .flp image of the original hobbit game's files, but, if I
either try mount it to the already included floppy disk piece of virtual
hardware, or try create another one inside virtual machine, it keeps telling
me disk/drive not ready from command line when virtual machine is running..?

Do you just reassign the already included floppy disk to use that image
file, do you tell it to connect at power up, or do you map it into virtual
machine another way?

Oh yes, and what floppy disk image format did you choose? 144, 360?

Stay well

Ok, created the .flp image of the original hobbit game's files, but, if I
either try mount it to the already included floppy disk piece of virtual
hardware, or try create another one inside virtual machine, it keeps
telling me disk/drive not ready from command line when virtual machine is
running..?

Do you just reassign the already included floppy disk to use that image
file, do you tell it to connect at power up, or do you map it into virtual
machine another way?

TIA

first I used a free command line program called BFI floppy to turn it
into a floppy disk image file. I mounted it in the virtual machine and it
showed up as an a: drive then in dos with asap I typed

copy a:\island.exe c:\

and it coppied over into the vmware hard drive file system.

Re: [Audyssey] island game

2014-12-22 Thread Jacob Kruger

As in - sorry for multiple posts - used following bfi command:
bfi -t=144 -f=hobbit.flp src

And, had the two files for image in src sub-directory - hobbit.com and
hobbit.dat - and if I then use 7zip to extract contents of hobbit.flp, they
are there/do show up.

Stay well
