Re: [Audyssey] star wars
Hello, If indeed Lucas Arts did send a takedown notice, and you intentionally deleted or ignored it, a judge could rule that you were in contempt of court, and slap you with a fine or jail sentence. Unfortunately, copyright is a bit of a complicated subject. What is considered fair use? How does copyright law differ from country to country? These are problems we need to solve in order for the audio games market to advance, if people want Star Wars/Star Trek/Mario-based games at least. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of josh Sent: Saturday, March 08, 2008 9:19 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] star wars hey, you could also add a bunch of security to your website so lucas arts couldn't access your site. but if it were me I myself would just make the game and if Lucas arts would try sueing me they'd have no luck because what are they gunna get from me, oh wow, fifty dollars! that's a lot isn't it? I'd just read the email and delete it and ignore it. or I would write back saying, I will stop making star wars based games when you guys make your games playable by blind people. and leave it at that and delete all further emails from them. Re: [Audyssey] Raceway was USA game web site?
This is not possible. Espeak uses the Gnu General Public License, which would forbid it from being included in Raceway, unless Raceway was also open source. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of josh Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2008 9:55 PM To: Gamers Discussion list Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Raceway was USA game web site? Hi thomas, you could maybe modify ESpeak and use it? Josh - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2008 5:10 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Raceway was USA game web site? Hi Cara, As far as Raceway goes there are definitly work arounds about what speech system to use, but each has an advantage/disadvantage. If I want to completely port Raceway as is from C# .NET to Java there is a commercial Sapi package, JSapi, put out by Cloud Garden that supports all the usual Sapi engines like the Scansoft voices, Neospeech voices, etc. The problem is that it isn't licensed very cheaply, and by using the JSapi package from Cloud Garden I have to tie Raceway specificly to the Windows os which defeats the purpose of a multiplatform game. There is the option of FreeTTS. FreeTTS is a TTS engine written in pure Java, for Java applications, but isn't exactly very high quality. The final option is to prerecord the speech. Prerecording all the voice files using a high quality synth or a human is the best way to make the game pplatform independant. However, with prerecorded speech there is less possibility of making the game customisable. Cara Quinn wrote: Ah Thomas, you can see I've visited the website lately! lol! anyway, very cool and I'd forgotten about SAPI as an issue, but I too, would think there's got to be some sort of reasonable work around as you suggest. Re: [Audyssey] Text based games
Hi, At the run prompt, instead of typing command.com, type cmd.exe. JAWS will then read all the prompts for the games without you having to use the JAWS cursor. CMD.exe is the Command Prompt, which in XP is equivalent to the DOS Prompt in older OS's. You should be able to play the games in cmd.exe. Thanks everyone! What you do is go to Run, and in the box you type command.com This brings up the prompt. This is cool, because I remember on a computer I saw with JFW and an older version of Windows, you could go to the MS-dos prompt option in accessories, but their is no such thing under Windows XP. It feels so brilliant that I can play some of these games again! I do wish their was a way of somehow restarting in dos and of somehow getting a proper dos screen reader loaded. Chris, you can read the dos windows by routing the Jaws Cursor to the PC cursor, but I tried a game today where it didn't work well, because the text seemed to be in bars, what I mean is, JFW read the lines like this: || Welcome to Gymad|| ||Written by || I can't play games like this, I really wish I knew how to turn this option off. Hi ivan, To use the outlook Express spellchecker, press F7 or you can find it in the Tools menu. Note: If you don't have Microsoft Word installed, the spellchecker will be unavailable, as OE relies on the MS Word spellchecker to function.
