Re: [Audyssey] Announcing Support for 2 more Devices
Hi, That's exactly my problem as well. Currently I've upgraded the Genesis Engine using SFML and various other open source cross-platform libraries and can compile it on Linux and am reasonably sure the latest engine is Mac OS compatible as well, but the problem is I don't have a Mac. So I either have to lend my source code to someone to do the port, something i'm not certain about doing, or have to come up with the money to buy a Mac to do the port. Alternatively I could install Mac OS 10.6 through VMware Player and compile it virtually. Which would work, but anyway you cut it it is an expensive and risky thing. That's not including the cost of trying to obtain and compile ports for Apple IPods, IPhones, and other devices which should be a simple port but expensive to do. Bottom line if the community truely want thes devices supported we need a large donation to purchase the equipment and software to do the job. Smile. On 9/18/10, Louis Bryant wrote: > Hi. Re: [Audyssey] Announcing Support for 2 more Devices
Hi. Portable Apple products won't be supported anytime soon. Right now they are out of my budget. In order to build for such a device you must own one, and languages such as Python and Java either are quite difficult to get up and running to develop for those devices, or they are unsupported. Though people may be willing to test on an IPhone or Ipod, how do I know I can trust you with Source Code and not to give it away unless the product is Open Source? Then there is the knowledge about the IPhone or IPod the tester would have to know, like how to compile Objective-C for there device? Then would the tester want some kind of pay for their time, especially if the project is being sold? Re: [Audyssey] Announcing Support for 2 More Devices
Are you going to create one for the iPhone and iPod touch? That would be awesome because that's what I have an iPod touch. I am writing the client and future programs in the following languages for easier portability: C# for Windows Mobile, Python for BraillePlus and Icon, and Java for Android and Symbian. This will make 3 ports easier than the fourth port since C# and Java are so similar it's not even funny. Since this client is freeware just like RSGames version, everyone will get to test it and based off of your feedback future software will be shaped to support fixes and changes the client will get. Thanks, and you all take care.
