Re: [Audyssey] MOTA starting over when you die, was:Re: Tomb Rater

2009-02-26 Thread dark

Hi Che.

to be honest I don't mind the restarting post death business myself,
not with the damage factor and the amount of health you have, pluss the
plentiful supply of healing potions.

On Monti, i felt this became a trifle unbalanced due to the lack of said
potions, but sinse Mota seems more generous, survival even when taking
hits can simply be a matter of resource management.

As to comparing Mota to other side scrollers, well remember Marrio
brothers and the necessity to complete half a level on only two hits,
or games like Prince of persia which required you to complete a very long
level with lots of exploration, and dying would mean starting the level
again.

while I grant computer games of the 80's and 90's were probably more
difficult, so I might have a different idea of difficulty to a first time
gamer, with a game like Mota with a finite level structure, being too easy
is I think a danger,- which is why I was concerned about the ducking
enemy's floor.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

 HI guys,
First of all, could you guys please try to follow some list etiquette and
specify your subject lines to what you are talking about? There is a ton
of traffic on here about the game, and I don't care to read through 50
messages about ridiculous torch suggestions to get to something that
merits actual discussion. I'd say the majority of the messages of late
have nothing to do with subject line other than being about MOTA. A little
consideration here would go a long way, thanks.
Regarding starting over, I think it is a lot to ask the beginning
accessible game player to work through the entire level again each time
they die on arcade beginner mode, wouldn't it be enough to start them one
room back from where they died? Even on the old side scrollers of my
youth, you didn't have to start over at the beginning if you died in most
cases. But then, I'm old, lol.

Makes good sense. Plus, that's also incentive to register the game.

Tom Says:
Well, i've seen it go both ways. I seam to recall Super mario Brothers put
you back at the beginning of the level when you died. Not only that but
the level got reset so you had to fight the same traps, enemies, etc all
over again. That could be a big score builder, but also added challenge to
the game. That is why I have elected to start over at the beginning.
Also one more note. For those players who don't like going back to the
beginning of the game once I get the save and load game feature added to
standard mode those gamers can simply load from where they died and try
again. So in a way you get the best of both worlds here.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] MOTA starting over when you die, was:Re: Tomb Rater

2009-02-25 Thread Charles Rivard
Actually, I like having to play the game over when you die for a few
reasons: 1. You get more familiar with the game by playing it more.

2: (and here's one I'd like to see the comments from others on), It could
be used as a strategic score builder if the game were set to actually take
you back to square 1 after selecting your type of game and level of
difficulty. By this, I mean that you would be presented with a whole new
set of monsters and obstacles, although you do start with the items you have
attained thus far, increasing your score as you work your way through the
newly randomized game. I wonder how hard this would be for Tom to
incorporate or even if it would be a good idea? It would give both replay
value and a challenge, as well as add frustration which some gamers would
like and others would not.

Finally, thanks for the subject change reminder.
