Re: [Audyssey] Installing DirectX Updates
Hi, Thanks. Actually, I did manage to get some help from the Inno Setup guys and it now detects the .NET Framework version and downloads the setup file from my server if needed. Still working on the DirectX angle, but I am getting the installer upgraded to do what I need it to do. Smile. Re: [Audyssey] Installing DirectX Updates
I have no doubt Advanced Setup Installer will come in handy for several software products. It is just that it comes with a giant price tag. Though, if it resolves the tech nightmare we are having figuring who has what it is worth it long term. They will get a lovely error saying upgrade this to continue, or else game won't work. In fact, it will perform web setup stuff for you if components are missing so it should make it as easy as cake. Er...Easy as pie. Charles Rivard wrote: In short, OUCH!! Re: [Audyssey] Installing DirectX Updates
Hi Tom, As an opinion, I would pick choice 3. Most computer gameCD usually come with the proper direct X required to run it. If 3 isn't possible then I would go for choice number 2, for the sake of those who do not have the faster speeds. al inal Message - From: "Thomas Ward" To: "Gamers Discussion list" Sent: Friday, February 27, 2009 9:18 PM Subject: [Audyssey] Installing DirectX Updates Hello gamers, I've noticed over the passed three or four days several of you have had difficulties getting Microsoft DirectX installed. With this mind I want to switch to an installlation that is easier and more intuative for you gamers in the future. I'm wondering wich of the following you want me to try. 1. Instead of having gamers download and install the full runtime i can use the Microsoft web setup tool which will detect which DirectX components need upgraded or installed and will do this live from the internet. The good news is it is very easy to use, not confusing, but you should have a high speed internet connection to use it. 2. I can repack the installer with winzip self-extractor and force it to run dxsetup.exe, and that might resolved the problem with the temp directory. 3. Perhaps rather than either method I should just pack the Managed DirectX components in the MOTA installer and forget about the rest. Re: [Audyssey] Installing DirectX Updates
Hi Charles, That, or simply include the manage components with the game. Adding just the managed components won't take up much extra install space or make the setup file much larger. Provided the person is running a fairly recent DirectX, released in the last year or so, the components won't need anything else but the .NET Framework just like the game. Re: [Audyssey] Installing DirectX Updates
Well since I have 3 computers on this home network its easier to share and deploy. its also good for systems that say I install the system on then I load all the programs, and all offline updates before I load the security stuff on it, connect to the net and get the updates. On a patch site the author did not put the latest dotnet because you had to get extra updates from windows update, the update was 248mb with everything, but if I got the main part of the update which was 231mb I only had to get 16mb from windowsupdate.
