Re: [Audyssey] another interesting point in raul's sod walk through
IT is a maze, but it is set out on a grid with x/y coordinates eg 13/18, which is why the coordinates command works. That was Raul's meaning. Beware the Grue! Dark. - Original Message - From: "Nicol" To: "gamers" Sent: Tuesday, September 22, 2009 7:50 PM Subject: [Audyssey] another interesting point in raul's sod walk through HI all I wish to bring up another interesting point, raul, our co-moderator made in his sod walk through. raul talked in his walk through about the shades of doom playing area as a grid. I politely wish to disagree here. I call the shades of doom area a maze instead. and except the fact that the playing area physically looks more like a maze, I have another good reason why I am sure its a maze and not a grid. when i played sod 1.0, I am not sure if the same will happen in version 1.2, but when I played 1.0 I was busy fighting the boss. you guys will certainly remember that back in version 1.0 you only had one boss to fight. anyway, I was looking all over for the boss because he teleported away from me when I shot him so i was looking for him everywhere and I was running into walls all the time. and thus I used a cheet to blast my way through walls as i didn't had any mines left and so it happend that I approached the most outer wall of the maze. so when i pressed the cheet's keystroke to blast through this wall a standard, windows, message box popped up. so I loaded my screen reader and this is what the message box said: "you are trying to exit the maze." the wall, of course, did not move. but there you have the most solid proof that the shades of doom playing area is indeed a maze shape. certainly david greenwood put that message box there himself if the player tries to blast through the most outer wall with a cheet, therefore david greenwood, the creator of sod, calls the shades of doom playing area indeed a maze shape. but once again I will not expect raul to change that bit in his recording, its interesting that raul sees the sod playhing area as a grid, but now you all know that it is indeed maze shaped. an example of a grid play ing area would be self destruct. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] another interesting point in raul's sod walk through
Hi Nicol, And your point is? All you are doing is arguing semantics here without any real understanding of the technical aspects of the game. Yes, it is a maze. No argument about that. However, the maze is drawn on a 2d grid so it is also a grid. As a programmer I often use map, grid, maze etc interchangeably as I am referring to the same thing. the level maps i create with my game engine are drawn on a 2d or 3d grid so I can use the term grid or map to mean the same thing. Your problem is that you are being too literal with the terminology here. I don't know if this is a language thing, the fact English isn't your primary language, or what, but Americans are not that literal with words. Many words in the English language can be used in other ways outside of the strict dictionary definition for that word. What we say and what we mean can be two different things. Take a word like "cool." If someone in America walks up and says something like, "you have some really cool shades," he means he really likes your sun glasses. He doesn't mean "cool" as in tempature or "shade" as in getting out of the sun. What he said and what he meant are completely different based on context. Re: [Audyssey] another interesting point in raul's sod walk through
Hello. If you have issues with my style of walk through, please write me privately to avoid cluttering the list and if it's constructive criticism, we can discuss it. Otherwise, this is just using up valuable electrons. Also, we may have to agree to disagree because whether it's a maze or not, the way the GMA games engine does things is via a grid system. Heck, I can break it down to the mathematics if you like, but I don't wish to make anyone's head explode. Many thanks. Re: [Audyssey] another interesting point in raul's sod walk through
Hi Nicol, The playing fields of Shades of Doom, and Tank Commander and Pacman and Sarah are all both grids and mazes. Each cell has Cartesian coordinates that form a grid, but some cells are walls that form a maze. - Original Message - From: "Nicol" To: "gamers" Sent: Tuesday, September 22, 2009 2:50 PM Subject: [Audyssey] another interesting point in raul's sod walk through HI all I wish to bring up another interesting point, raul, our co-moderator made in his sod walk through. raul talked in his walk through about the shades of doom playing area as a grid.
