I think your best bet would be to try the course from the Hadley school for
the blind, Chess For Beginners. It is only a 6 lesson correspondence
course, and you can get the material in either braille or on audio
cassettes, along with a brailled book of diagrams to use during the
lessons.

Plus, you receive a very good chess set adapted for blind players that you
can keep, along with the course materials for future reference if you
finish
the course. I don't know their URL offhand, but you should be able to
find

it using a search engine such as

www.google.com

if nobody else can give it to you on this list.

Anyway, briefly, bishops, rooks, (also known as castles), and Knights, the
King, the Queen and pawns capture pieces by moving to the squares on which
the enemy piece rests. Pieces that are jumped by a Knight remain on the
board. Check is when your king will be captured on your opponent's next
move unless you prevent it by blocking the path or moving the King out of
harm's way, or by capturing the attacking piece. If you can do none of
these things and cannot prevent your King from being taken, it is
checkmate

and the game is over. HTH.

Well, Charles. Can a castle take out pieces and if so how? Can the bishop
and all the others take out pieces? If so, how? When a knight jumps a
piece,

does it take out the piece it jumps? What's check or checkmate? I need to
know everything about chess. If anybody knows about a review on chess let
me

know. Thanks.

To answer your question, a rook, knight, bishop etc simply takes out the
piece it lands on. As for a knight, no it does not take out the piece it
jumps; this is not checkers Grin. About check and checkmate: when your
king is in check, it can be captured. This means that you must immediately
either move the king out of check or some how move a piece in the way, as
your king *cannot* be captured. If, however, you cannot get out of check,
this is considered checkmate and grants your opponent victory.

Hayden

Re: [Audyssey] chess help

2010-02-12 Thread dark

Hi Shirley.
have you got the Bg chess challenge game from spoonbill software? not only
does it play chess, but it comes with a document entitled how to play chess
which explains all the rules and maneuvers, pluss I believe the game has
some degree of in game help if i remember rightly.

You can either download it from Tom's site on
http://www.usagamesinteractive.com/downloads/spoonbill-games/ or
alternatelyou can send an E-mail requesting the game to Ian humphries who
produces it (all his games are free and use ms sapi to be self-voicing).

You can find out all about his games, and his E-mail address on
http://www.omninet.net.au/~irhumph/blindgamers.htm to be honest, even if you
just download bg chess from Tom's hosting site, --- Ian humphries does
rather like E-mails from people sinse he likes to personally know who plays
his games, pluss then he can put you on the mailing list to know about
new releases if you wish.

Hth.

Beware the grue!

Dark.
