My computer does it because I'm actually using a touchpad and some sort of weird dialogue opens up. Unfortunately, if this happens to you, you just have to hope it stops happening, because I haven't figured out a way to prevent it. This would be caused if your computer is struggling to keep up with the game. My guess is that it has happened to you during the more processor intensive situations, such as when there are many zombies in the area with you. For the past couple versions I've noticed that sometimes when I try to click the mouse the game loses focus. I'm curious if anybody else is experiencing this.
