Zindgi made in 70's by Ravi Tandon with sanjeev kumar and Mala Sinha playing
the couple and then they added a dash of the rajesh khanna / shabana azmi
starrer Avtar to get a khichi called Bagbhan

One of the first films of Sumitra and Sunil Sukhtankar
was on AIDS - titled Jindagi Jindagi. This movie had
two gay characters as central to the movie. But the
movie dealt with AIDS and how these two gays cope with
it but not on the gay theme as such.
But I must say that

I agree with your comment of Umbartha movie. I think they should have done more
research before putting the dialogue that these issues can be solved with
psychiatric help, which is indeed a sad part. I wish new directors like Sunil
Sukathankar, Sumitra Bhave handle homosexuality

I havent seen Umbarathaa yet! (so sad) Smita Patil (see her movie Pet pyar aur
paap in hindi)has always been my best actress along with Padmini
Kolhapure.. will try to see it when Im in India later. But I did see
Syaamchi Aai, a long time ago.. I only remember the title but
ashi hi banva banvi is a lovveellyy film... and i have loved it myself. The
central idea of the film revolves around four guys looking for a house. The
owner however is an old lady who wants only couples as her paying guests. So,
two of them dress up as pretty ladies and the story continues..

I am also a big time fan of marathi language and literature. I do enjoy
watching some marathi movies but not many. I LOVED ashi hi banava banavi
movie very much. Sachin, lakshya, sushant and ashok saraf are great in this
movie. I recently purchased couple of marathi vcd's

Umbartha not just had a lesbian scene it had a complete lesbian angle in
Yes "Ashi Hi Banva Banvi" is really worth a Watch. (but for Marathi Humor loving guys only)
I had seen it several years be4 (maybe 8 or so) at Plaza Theatrein Dadar I think it starrs Ashok Saraf, Late Laxmikant Berde about the heroine ..hmmm if Im not mistaken it was Varsha
