Thanks for the help. I'm able now to look into why the builds fail.
The gcc and gfortran commands are not found, which is weird since in
*install-spec2017.sh* there is a command for installing them. In the
terminal, I can clearly see that it is executed.

I tried the changes you proposed. After running the packer build command,
the only thing that's in the spec-2017-image directory is a binary file.
Shouldn't the disk image be a .img file or something like that? How can I
look into the file system of the vm and check the build logs?

Thanks so much for the information on Abstract Controller's Constructor.
I removed the if condition for m_version and now I am getting the stats I
wanted.
I will let the Profiler.cc remain as it was.

Thank you so much for the guidance. I will proceed as per that.
One thing I tried is to edit Profiler.cc and in its collateStats() function,
I added ' ctr -> collateStats() '
That seems to do the work, I did crosscheck the values and it seems correct.
