2023-09-25 Thread Bertil Chapuis
Thank you for taking the time to clarify, I apologise for misinterpreting your
email.

I should have reviewed our DISCLAIMER-WIP more thoroughly before replying: the
statement in question comes from our list and is not part of the template for
the DISCLAIMER-WIP. I will remove it and implement the other changes mentioned
in your email.

I wasn't suggesting skipping votes. I was very surprised to see that
statement in your disclaimer [1] and I think it should be removed and
that you should follow standard voting procedures.

I've re-read my email from before and am really surprised that it is
being misinterpreted as a call for BareMaps to skip the proper voting
process.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Baremaps 0.7.2-rc2 (incubating)

2023-09-25 Thread Bertil Chapuis
I think we can close this vote. We will make the necessary changes and call for
a new vote for a third release candidate. Since we started the current release
process more than a month ago, I suggest we skip the vote for rc3 on the dev
mailing list.

I would also like to hear your thoughts on possible ways to accelerate the
release process. Some open issues on GitHub mention that the last release is
outdated (our examples and documentation have evolved). In this context, I fear
that many people may just silently move on when they encounter problems. As
highlighted by PJ Fanning, the disclaimer-wip can include a sentence like:
“Releases may not have been voted on by the community.” Could one possibility
be to release more often without voting until we address most of the points
listed in the disclaimer-wip? Ideally, I’d like to find a good balance that
makes the project more usable and attractive to potential users until we
address all the remaining issues listed in the disclaimer-wip.

Best,

Bertil

I had voted +1 on the dev list but I am changing my vote in light of the header

A typical java file in Baremaps has this header:

2023-09-25 Thread Calvin Kirs
Hi,

sorry for my late check. I've been a little busy lately.

-1 (binding)

I checked:

- checked the asc and sha checksums
- incubating in the name
- LICENSE and NOTICE and DISCLAIMER-WIP present
- can build from source
- no unexpected compiled binaries in the source distribution

I don't have any other questions, but our license header is missing
something crucial--Licensed to the Apache Software Foundation
(ASF) under one or more contributor license agreements.

I think we've already filed the ICLA/CLA, so this statement is important.

+1 (binding) despite minor issues in DISCLAIMER-WIP

* checked the asc and sha checksums
* incubating in name
* LICENSE and NOTICE and DISCLAIMER-WIP present
* can build from source
* no unexpected compiled binaries in source distribution

The DISCLAIMER-WIP has not fixed a URL present in the file
- https://incubator.apache.org/projects/Apache Podling-Name.html
- this should probably be https://incubator.apache.org/projects/baremaps.html

Also, you should possibly remove the line in DISCLAIMER-WIP about the releases
not being voted on. Or could you be more specific about which releases were not
voted on?
- Releases may not have been voted on by the community.
