One of those guys, errr, ehemmm, well... It's me... :)

No, seriously, logos and so on are a _very_ serious matter... A couple of
years ago we ran into troubles because we used the sketch of an Native
American Indian sitting in front of a cup of coffee for Java.Apache.ORG
(well, also the name was kind of a pain, got into "troubles" for that too).

You know where you start, you never know where you end up to... (It's a
f***ed up world, indeed, but...)

Pier - who likes Java(TM) :) :) :)

Oh, yes, and not to mention the fact that that logo is following the "style"
of the ASF (check out the foundation logo)... And I really love sharp edged
fonts (that one should be a Trebouchet Bold, one of my favourites) :)

Yes, each sub project under the Jakarta banner has their own logo. That is
the logo that is generally on the right hand side. Our website generation
tool allows each project to put their logo there.

ah, ok. yeah, it is the generic apache log with jakarta underneath it. i
thought that was kinda a placeholder, which is why i played around with

But...

#1. We already have a logo that is quite fine.
#2. I don't remember anyone asking for a new one.

I would be willing to entertain the idea/contest for a new website design,
but I don't see a reason to change the logo.

Looks good to me.

Hey, this is a great idea. How about declaring a 'competition' for a Jakarta
logo
and then use a online voting (e.g. FreeVote.com) to select the most popular
one.

We can even announce it in few web design forums/news-groups where creative
types
are gathering. I am sure there are many designers that would love to have
the Jakarta logo on their resume.

Anybody is up to the challenge ?
