Re: [Tizen General] Gear Fit2 SDK

2016-09-14 Thread Olivier Nyssen
As explained below, Samsung rejects all Gear Fit2 apps.
Most people know I'm an economist, so they ask me: "how can Samsung be so
stupid ?"
It's very simple: it's part of a basic product differentiation strategy.
Samsung has thousands of products: product A is more expensive than product
B, so it must have more features.
So a marketing guy decided that Gear Fit2 wouldn't have apps, in order to
"protect" Gear S3.
Seemed a rather simple decision: Gear Fit1 didn't have apps either...

Main problem: marketing guys in giant companies usually don't understand
the big picture:
1) Samsung invests enormous amounts of time and money to create a Tizen
ecosystem: one of the most heard complaints about Gear watches is "it needs
more apps"
2) Many devs will *buy *the Gear Fit2 but they can't create an app for it:
this is certainly not going to improve Tizen's reputation
3) This major mistake is going to have a big impact on Samsung's image and
wearable sales for years to come

2016-09-06 Thread Olivier Nyssen
Bad news: Samsung has modified its marketing article about Gear Fit2:
"applications" has been deleted in the text cited below.
Worse: Samsung lets developers work on Fit2 apps but none will be accepted
in the store, except some tpk watchfaces.

Conclusions:
1) Zero respect for customers and app devs;
2) Zero chance to have third-party apps on the best-selling Tizen device:
such an absurdity would be impossible with an Android device;
3) I hope it's just stupidity, not an attempt to kill the fledgling Tizen
ecosystem

Good news from Samsung: "From the user’s perspective, now anyone can
develop applications or watchfaces for the Gear Fit2, and users can
download and use it – that’s because Tizen OS-related SDKs are provided and
there is an app store."

[Tizen General] Gear Fit2 SDK

2016-07-11 Thread Olivier Nyssen
Hello,

I've bought the Samsung Gear Fit2: I love its curved screen, which is
particularly well adapted for the wrist.
This device is going to be a best-seller, that's a certainty.
It's better than its closest competitor (Microsoft Band 2) in every aspect,
including a bigger and better screen:
http://comparewear.com/compare/microsoft-band-2-vs-samsung-gear-fit2-vs-samsung-gear-s2/

But Microsoft has a SDK for Band 2:
https://developer.microsoftband.com/

Samsung is trying to create a Tizen ecosystem but their best-selling Tizen
device will not be supported by the SDK: this is absurd imo
