screensaver then that's probably a cause of this.
i'm using the latest kernel without these problems, but i'm avoiding
using opengl screensaver or letting firefox or amarok running when i'm
 not at the pc.
the second stuff: have you not set the automatic hibernation or the
automatic standby by chance and don't remember to have done it?
Hi Beso, actually, I've never setup hibrnate/standby on this laptop. In
fact prior to upgrading to .23-r3 I never had trouble with leaving it
for hours on but with a locked (and blank) screensaver running. Now,
the 2 days I've run it with .23-r3 it's dropped the keyboard on me. I
can move the mouse, but I none of the keys work for me to log back into
the box to shutdown or keep working.

Until the upgrade to .23-r3 I was running the masked original
2.6.23-gentoo kernel with no trouble at all. It's weird. I suspect the
kernel, but I've done a bunch of other updates this week as well, so it
 could be something else.

for a while I suffered 'sudden keyboard death'. I was typing some stuff - and
suddenly the keyboard was dead. When I switched to a vt, keyboard worked
again (but not in X) and I had to restart X. I haven't seen this since 2.6.22
and a lot of X updates. But you might want to try that - use acpid to switch
to a vt with the power button:
 cat /etc/acpi/events/default

 event=.*
 action=chvt 2

I still have this problem (on a non amd64 install), and I did something similar
to the
above, which you can do as you have a laptop. I use the lid event instead of
the power one.

you can do this by changing /etc/acpi/default.sh,
uncomment the lid) section and edit it to look like this :
lid)
chvt 1
;;

just close your screen to get to vt 1. this will let your power button work as
usual.

As a note,
sometime my keyboard is completely dead, and sometime (I noticed this
recently), it is
just very slow (I have to press keys for seomething like 1 second to get the
keystroke
(including modifiers (shitf,ctrl,...)).

I googled a bit about this problem, I found (byt having a look in Xorg.log)
that this
could be related to some Grabs being taken by application, and that the
following option
in the ServerFlags Section of xorg.conf could fix it (by allowing you to
release these
Grabs using Ctrl+Alt+KEYPAD_/, unfortunatly, it doesn't on my system.

Option AllowDeactivateGrabs true

[gentoo-amd64] MythTV changing positions on my monitor

2007-12-12 Thread Mark Knecht
Hi,
I'm wondering where to start looking for a solution to this. Thanks
in advance.

Since a set of recent updates, the most notable being Gnome but
certainly many others also, mythfrontend has started acting strange.
Anytime I switch the program to where it is watching video - be it
recorded or live TV - the screen position of the mythfrontend window
jumps to the upper left corner of my screen. It has never done this
before, to the best of my knowledge, in the 3 years I've been running
Myth.

This only happens when the new function contains video. Switching
between all the other Myth screens does nothing out of the ordinary.

I haven't updated Myth although I did rebuild it to see if that
would fix it but it didn't.

I tried the MythTV list first. The only response I got was that it
sounded like a window manager issue. That probably fits with either
Gnome or maybe some sort of X updates being what started this.

I suspect that Myth uses some sort of video acceleration that kicks
in at the point where it starts displaying video. Maybe that's
involved?

Anyway, this whole subject is WAY above my capabilities so it will
likely be a bit of a slog for me to get to the bottom of it and get it
fixed. Thanks in advance for any ideas about where to look. Some
starter info is below. I'm sure more will be required.

Thanks,
Mark
