I've blogged a bit about this and wrote the wiki page. However, the last time I actually tried to use kdump it wasn't working. I don't remember the details. I know I could boot another kernel immediately, but if I loaded a crash kernel it wouldn't actually boot on a panic. It would be nice to have a more official solution for this on Gentoo. I don't mind messing around with it. I don't have a ton of time but if you want to take the lead I can try to pitch in a bit. Rich

During the version bump today, I saw that fedora is providing lots of script and services for it. So I thought someone might be interested and port that to gentoo. kexec itself is working fine on gentoo. Justin signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

I don't mind contributing some, however. I guess see what kind of response you get and we'll figure out what makes sense. kexec itself is working fine on gentoo. That was my experience when I wrote the blog, but not the last time I tried using it... But, I haven't tested it in a few months. That is, kexec for a recovery kernel - it works fine if you want to do an immediate reboot. Rich
