And when i boot into /dev/hdb (i remember i had red
hat on it thats why grub comes out!) I get grub at a

were it says default and lable i can have them say
anything right? Like both of them saying Gentoo
instead of linux?

Yes, but I believe that lilo is restricted to one-word labels, unlike grub. So be careful with that
