[gentoo-user] TeXlive with non-English hyphenation?

2008-03-05 Thread Ralf Stephan
Hello,

Does someone use TeXlive and has encountered and solved
non-English hyphenation problems? I have tried both babel.sty
with the german/germanb options and german.sty from the
package texlive-langgerman, always giving the command
\selectlanguage{german}

babel.sty gives
Package babel Warning: No hyphenation patterns were loaded for
(babel)the language `German'
(babel)I will use the patterns loaded for \language=0
instead.

german.sty gives
german -- \language number for German undefined, default 255 used,
german -- Please read gerdoc.tex how to install hyphenation patterns.
german -- \language number for Austrian undefined, default 255 used.
german -- \language number for French undefined, default 255 used.

Many thanjks for any hints!

Regards,
ralf

[gentoo-user] dns/bind-tools 9.14 -> 9.16 pulling in 17 new dependencies?!

2020-07-20 Thread Grant Edwards
During my regular update, I see that net-dns/bind-tools is upgrading
from 9.14 to 9.16, and that's triggering the installation of _17_ new
packages (all apparently related to sphinx and Babel).

Is this sort of dependency bloat really necessary?

The "doc" flag for bind-tools is not set, so why does it demand that
sphinx be installed?

Does bind-tools really need packages like sphinxcontrib-qthelp,
sphinxcontrib-applehelp, sphinxcontrib-jsmath, sphinxcontrib-htmlhelp?

[gentoo-user] Problems with LyX and xetex-2021

2021-05-16 Thread Stefano Crocco
Hello to everyone,
since upgrading my ~arch system to TeXLive-2021 I'm having problems using
XeLaTeX to compile LyX documents. Has someone else experienced this issue? I'd
like to file a bug report about it, but before doing so I'd like to be sure
that there isn't something wrong with my system.

Below you'll find the details of my problem.

Thanks in advance

Stefano

DETAILS

When I use LyX to create a PDF using XeLaTeX from the attached test.lyx file
(using the default LaTeX (XeTeX) -> PDF (XeTeX) converter), I get an error
dialog with the following text:

The external program
xelatex
finished with an error. It is recommended you fix the cause of the external
program's error (check the logs).

As far as I can see, the log (attached as log_from_lyx) don't mention any
error, except for the generic (at least to my eyes) line
"Error 256 (driver return code) generating output;"
near the end.

Trying to obtain a better error message, I exported the LyX file as a XeLaTeX
file using the File/Export LaTeX (xetex) menu entry and run xelatex on it. Of
course, it failed, but this time the log (in the log_from_xelatex attachment)
contains a more meaningful message:
"xdvipdfmx:fatal: Cannot proceed without .vf or "physical" font for PDF
output..."

Unfortunately, I'm not expert enough in the inner works of (xe)latex to
understand this message. I tried searching google for it but didn't find
anything useful. However, looking at the tex file generated by LyX (the
test.tex attachment), I noticed the line

\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}

which seemed strange to me, as I thought that the fontenc package shouldn't be
used with XeLaTeX. Indeed, after commenting this line, xelatex successfully
created the correct PDF.

This problem has almost certainly been caused by switching texlive and the
related packages from 2020 to 2021, since on another computer where I masked
the 2021 version of app-text/texlive-core, app-text/texlive and all packages
in category dev-texlive, everything works correctly.

Re: [gentoo-user] Problems with LyX and xetex-2021

2021-07-11 Thread Nils Freydank
Hi Stefano,

I couldn't reproduce your error with xelatex at all. I took your example/MWE
and just executed "xelatex test.tex" and it generated me a single page PDF.

A quick and dirty idea: Move ~/.texlive (e.g. to ~/.texlive-bak) and let texlive
regenerate files there.

In my worldfile I have app-text/texlive, dev-tex/biber and dev-tex/latexmk,
everything else are just deps.

Interestingly it works even with USE="-xetex" for texlive which in turn has only
the following USE flags enabled:
"X extra graphics luatex metapost music png pstricks science truetype"

Hope that helps you,
Nils

After that, X wouldn't start... another half-hour of googling and

... and emerge --depclean removes all of the sphinx packages along

So, I gained back the ground I lost yesterday to bind-tools, but lost

[gentoo-user] npm: ERR! cb() never called!

2015-09-17 Thread Alan McKinnon
Anyone here familiar with driving nodejs and npm?

I'm trying to write an ebuild for a musicbrainz mirror server and "npm
install" keeps erroring out with one of two errors:

1. The install does finish but npm doesn't get around to exiting,
verified by stopping the emerge, running npm install manually and seeing
that it does nothing. When it stalls strace shows the last call was
(poll,), which implies a race condition.

2. More and more often now I get the dreaded "npm: ERR! cb() never
called!" error message which Google and stackoverflow say has been an
ongoing issue for 3 years now. If I keep retrying it eventually
succeeds, implying a race condition of some sort.

I do this in src_prepare():  [1]

You then need a script to download each url ONLY if one of the earlier

I don't think you do... I think wget -c will only download if the

you can use wget -nc, which only downloads if a file of the same

Though, seeing that the internet connection is on a separate machine,
maybe the OP would like to have integrity checking while downloading

with my poor skillz in programming, I'd rather install portage on
Debian then to hack a replacement to download and check the md5 for
the packages.

Sphinx is required (BDEPEND [1]) to build the man page, as commented in the
ebuild [2]:

# sphinx required for man-page and html creation
BDEPEND="${PYTHON_DEPS}
dev-python/sphinx
virtual/pkgconfig"

> Does bind-tools really need packages like sphinxcontrib-qthelp,

All of these are unfortunate consequences of Sphinx's hefty dependency list [3].
It seems that as the manual pages are installed with the package (regardless of
the `doc` USE-flag), there is no way of mitigating this dependency bloat with
the bind-tools 9.16 series. Hopefully this can be addressed by the developers in
future.

don't use thunderbird so I cannot try it for you.

For ease of use, there is also a firefox add-on called locale switch
that automates the process.

[gentoo-user] Which pkg installs /boot/grub?

2017-07-23 Thread Harry Putnam
I was pretty sure that grub2 installed /boot/grub... but I see no such
directory after installing grub.

qlist grub shows no directory /boot/grub

In other installs I seem to recall seeing /boot/grub in place after
installing grub.

Googling for pkg containing /boot/grub seemd pretty useless as mostly
it turns up all piles of stuff staring grub... but I already know pkg
grub-2.02 does not contain that directory or the files in it.

qfile /boot/grub
equery b /boot/grub

Before I continue this hard fought fresh install of gentoo into a vbox
vm, I'd like to know if I should be seeing a boot grub after these 223
pkgs (which includes grub-2.02) are installed?
