Damiano, Thank you very much for your reply. I really appreciate it. The web container that I am using is jetty. I appreciate your input, as you have confirmed my suspicion that the settings later in the conf file were overriding anything that I put in the previous section of the file.

Dear Simone, I am using as OS: MW-Windows 7 (64bit). When I retried to follow the tutorial it seems working. And after redeploying a fresh geoserver I was able to see the mentioned points using the g_point style (that uses gs:RasterAsPointCollection process) as mentioned in the tutorial. Under
