Hi Laura; I am taking this problem over to the developers list ... I
actually found this problem when trying to compile a library uDig uses
last week...

I am on my laptop now, where I am using 3.3.2 as well, but I remeber
that on my workstation at work I ma using 3.4 but still, I do not
remember having the problems you described.
I am going to check tomorrow.
