IP review completed, code runs (at least in my IDE) and builds without
geowidgets...
After a round of confirmation we should port this to trunk.

Glad you are using free software! I'm unsure if you received any reply
to your posting so here's a status report.
You are right that we lost all the gui code in the early release
candidates of 2.2. However, we have just added back a very simple GUI
which should clarify how thin
