[gep-ed] UN Dialogue to Commemorate Earth Day

2018-04-16 Thread Craig Kauffman
Hi all,

I wanted to let you know of an online event and resource that might be of
interest to you and your students to commemorate Earth Day. On Monday April
23, 2018, I will be moderating the eighth Interactive Dialogue of the UN
General Assembly on Harmony with Nature to Commemorate International Earth
Day. The theme of the Dialogue is how to use Earth Jurisprudence in the
implementation of production and consumption patterns in order to achieve
Sustainable Development Goal 12. The dialogue will be 10am to 6pm at UN
Headquarters in New York City, and will be live broadcast at webtv.un.org.
Recordings will also be available at the same website afterward. Students
will get to see norm contestation in action at the international level as
well as Earth Jurisprudence and Ecological Economics being taken seriously
in high-level discussions of how to implement the 2030 SDGs. For further
information, please visit the Dialogue's page at: https://goo.gl/DxcF69
There you can also get copies of General Assembly Resolutions and
Secretary-General Reports that led to the dialogue.

Let me know if you have any questions

Best,

Craig Kauffman

[gep-ed] Internship at UN in Sustainable Development

2019-08-22 Thread Craig Kauffman
Dear GEP-ed colleagues,

Please tell your students about a great internship opportunity with the
United Nations Harmony with Nature Program (see attached job descriptions).
The UN Harmony with Nature Program is within the Division for Sustainable
Development Goals (Department of Economic and Social Affairs). The program
works to advance Earth Jurisprudence (Earth Law) in order to implement the
2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in an ecologically sustainable way.
I’ve been very involved in the program for several years and two of my
students held the internship last year. I can tell you it would be a great
opportunity for students interested in sustainable development and Global
Environmental Politics generally.

Best,

Craig

[gep-ed] New book - The Politics of Rights of Nature: Strategies for Building a More Sustainable Future

2021-09-14 Thread Craig Kauffman
Dear Colleagues,

I’m pleased to announce that my new book (with Pamela Martin), *The
Politics of Rights of Nature: Strategies for Building a More Sustainable
Future* is now out an available through MIT Press who generously agreed to
publish it open access on their website --
https://mitpress.mit.edu/books/politics-rights-nature -- (the paperback is
available at Amazon for $35). As the title suggests, the book goes beyond
moral, philosophical, and legal arguments about rights of nature and
instead analyzes the politics behind the creation and implementation of
laws recognizing ecosystems as rights-bearing subjects, as well as the how
these laws are shaping the politics of sustainable development. For people
interested in norms, the book analyzes the process through which new norms
are constructed in practice.
