Thank you for working on such a great resource. My feeling is that as

interested. If however the notice a great deal of GIP usage say 5% or

Use one of the two sub forums. The top level 'forum' acts a way to group
them in one spot and it's locked on purpose so that random topics don't
get added and need constant moving to general help or troubleshooting.

It's a fantastic idea (in principle), and looks great... but I'm in

becoming too popular, and drawing attention to itself.
A cease and desist letter might occur, but moreover, the last thing most
of us want is active measures
I'm not so active here but I agree with David - both in his compliments

And me too. Nice site, but I think it should perhaps be our little
secret... Better that than lose it.

Hi All,
I love the effort square penguin has put in, but also have to agree with the
feeling of keeping under the radar. Remember lots of the content is not the
BBC's as such and their partners get anti.

The mailing list is just that - a *mailing* list. If your email client
is antiquated, then get a new one! Personally, I'd be a bit
disappointed if mailing list traffic moved to a forum structure,

Why would it do that? The reverse-path of the message clearly identifies

Thank you for the link but I don't think that I am interested in their
feeble excuses. Time they were shut down. Corrupt and inept.

I completely agree with all that has been said re raising the profile of the
project. DON'T DO IT. Keep the obscurity; even the WebPVR was a step in the
wrong direction I think. CLI only is pretty obscure; the reason I think it
has been allowed to continue for so long. Perhaps the name of the
Please can I join in those GIP users urgently requesting that the new GIP
website change its provocative use of both the name and logo of the BBC?
The desire to help newbies with GIP is admirable and the website is
brilliant, but putting the entire project at risk of legal intervention is a
But with respect, GIP is not for the purposes of circumventing
international copyright law, however dismal your country's television. I
have the same complaints about a lot of UK telly!
If we explicitly or implicitly encourage the use of GIP to operate outside

To address a few points:
iplayer in URL: There is nothing wrong with having 'iplayer' in the URL
as far as I am aware. The site does not generate revenue (which is key)
or seek to dilute the trademark. Legal precedent for this is well
established. Check out 'ryan air sucks' for just one

Great news from Beebify is that we've just partnered with unBLOCKr.
unBLOCKr provides access to PlayRights for DRM-protected BBC-TV shows
when you're outside the UK. Download with Beebify, get PlayRights
with unBLOCKr.
unBLOCKr is now tightly integrated into Beebify. Just switch on

Why sadly? A low profile, with an
First time contribution here, but could I respectfully suggest that the
points made below, whilst theoretically arguable, would almost certainly be
ruinously expensive even to deploy in any sort of legal context.
