Picking up audio described TV on get_Iplayer

2019-12-30 Thread Amro Bilal
Hi everyone, asking on behalf of a friend who’s having the issue below.
Here’s what he wrote

"Does anyone know why I sometimes seek out audiodescribed TV programmes
using Get_Iplayer and yet it sometimes sends down the version without
AD? The command I use, say, to get ‘Gavin and Stacey’ would either be

get_iplayer --get “Gavin and Stacey” --versions=audiodescribed

or

get_iplayer --get (--URL” followed by the full URL of the page with the
audiodescribed version on it (After the PID, the URL shows “/AD/)

And down comes the version without audiodescription, even though I know
the described edition exists?"

Any thoughts please? Many thanks.

Amro

Which is quicker, converting to 320 or 256 bitrate?

2019-02-10 Thread Amro Bilal

Hello everyone,

I am setting the option to always convert downloaded radio programmes to
a constant bitrate MP3 format, and my question is, does it make any
difference, speed wise, if I convert to a lower bitrate than 320? i.e.
Would the conversion take less time if I convert to say 256 bitrate?
Thank you.

Re: Europe

2018-12-22 Thread Amro Bilal

For what it is worth, I have used StreamVia
https://www.streamvia.com/
for few years and in few different countries, including China and it is
yet to let me down. The only UK website I could not access from abroad
was National Lottery. I believe StreamVia has an option for live TV
streaming in HD. It is a paid for service but if you are a frequent
traveller you may justify

the cost.

VPNs are often very slow. Much faster, and a solution that works well
for me, is something called Smart DNS, which is essentially a

of money - ignore the so-called free offerings, they are usually very
slow and often not to be trusted.

That's the way it's always been. TV programmes are geo-restricted, but radio
programmes are not. You need to use a VPN which makes you appear to be in
the UK if you want to download TV programmes.

Hi - we were in Budapest recently with a fast wifi connection at the
IBIS hotel!!!

I tried the GiP PVR and did a cache refresh quickly and easily both
for Radio & T.V.

Then I ran the PVR list and this too went OK. For example it
downloaded the latest 'Beyond Our Ken' for 16-12-2018 which ended up
as:

Beyond_Our_Ken_-_From_4_6_1959_m0001k9d_original.m4a

File size : 69.1 MiB
Duration : 30 min 4 s
Overall bit rate mode : Variable
Overall bit rate : 322 kb/s

Just the same as in the UK.

BUT ... no t.v. downloads.

Apologies, yes it looks I mistakenly replied to you directly rather than the
list. And thanks a lot for answering my question.
All the best
