Re. file sizes doubling. In my expereince some are and many aren't. I can't quite get a handle on why. I too have seen 1.5 hour films go to 5.5GB where before I would expect 2.5 - 3. Yet one episode of Killing Eve from the last series yields the info below for the full HD and the 1280x720 versions. Hardly an increase in file size, but then the compression is different and may or may not suit the type of scenes within the episode I guess. Compression is a bit of a mystery to me... I've always been impressed by the quality of the 1280 x 720 on our 4K UHD screen and while the quality is subjectively better in certain areas with the Full HD, it's not something I'd do every time if it was doubling the storage requirement. To be honest I find that better sound has more impact on the "watchability"/enjoyment of a lot of programs than the video. We stream a lot these days from Netflix/Disney+/Prime... which is going to be a lot more compressed than the video in these files but the Atmos or DTS audio through the surround speakers and sub. on the streamed content make such an impact, which (even with all the processing the audio system can throw at it) the iplayer files never match. If anyone's wondering from the info, I store most things in .TS unless I'm ripping my DVD's/BluRays mainly because that's what all the off air recordings from whenever were recorded in. Must admit I'm no longer sure if this is the best way to do this with iplayer files but hey. Hi, I am having difficulty downloading some of the Winter Olympics - it seems to affect broadcasts that are from the red button / digital channel.
